Spare a chance?

Hi! I’m bored at work and fantasizing about being at Columbia so I figured why not make a chance thread. It’s always interesting to hear people’s opinions about admissions! I’m going into my senior year and am a middle-class, suburban white girl (isn’t that unusual?!).

–GPA: 4.55 weighted
–Rank: 4/~500
–SAT score: 2110 (680M/700CR/740W)–am retaking in October, going to actually study well
–SAT II: 740 USH (taking Lit and French this Fall)
–APs: 11, with 5s on all the ones I’ve already taken
–Overall courseload: All honors and AP

ECs!
–School drama productions (LOTS of time put into this, very passionate about it)
–Wrote a one-act play that was produced and performed at a district competition, as well as at my school (it even won an acting award! :D)
–NHS, high school tutoring committee head
–ITS
–Drama Club member and VP (and hopefully Pres next year)
–Academic Team (hopefully captain next year!)
–French Club

Jobs!
–5-week (200 hrs) paid internship at a very well-known, awesome PR firm in DC
–Babysitting 3 days/week for a summer

Awards!
–Most Outstanding Student in French 1-4, Honors Biology, Drama 2, AP US History, AP English Lang
–Most Outstanding Sophomore Female of the Year
–NHS member of the month Nov 2010
–Lettered in both Academics (three times) and Drama

Misc.
–May receive a letter of reccomendation from the governor of my state
–Will meet with, potentially receive a letter of reccomendation from one of the top members of Columbia’s alumni association (just for Columbia, of course)
–Ran for both Senior Class and NHS president but lost…I tried, though!
–Have ideas for some pretty unique essays that I hope will stand out in the crowd

Thank you!

Also, how big a difference would it be if I applied ED? If you do want to apply ED but you have to wait for test scores past the Nov 1 due date, are you still allowed to apply and then just send in the scores (in this case, it would be either one or two SAT IIs) late?

EDIT: I just realized that I forgot to mention that my GPA is out of 4.5, not 4.0.

Thanks again!

ED doesn’t increase chances, the acceptance rate is higher because less people apply and of the people that do apply many of them are highly qualified to go.
You look like a competitive applicant.

Awesome, thank you so much! :)
