"Sparkcharts" and other outline-like study aids

I recently discovered “sparkcharts”, charts crammed full with facts such as a timeline for history, or properties for math, and I was wondering how effective a study tool this would be for use the night before and the morning of a major test like the AP or the SAT II. (Specifically, I’m looking at the US History one and the Chemistry one). While I understand that this wouldn’t be a good substitute for regular review and such and I intend to use prep books and text books to study, I want to use these for just a quick, overall summary of the entire subject. I can see some potentially great value in this, but I would like to ask if anyone ever tried something like this? Did it work? Would you pay for it (sparkcharts=$5)?

cramming won’t help you.
Your working memory can’t handle more than 10 facts before it has to “erase” to make room for more.

I was thinking along the lines of refreshing my memory before the test and getting a macroscopic view of things. Of course I will learn the details from other sources, but I’m hoping to see the interrrelations between the details as well as a method to quickly review everything and get your mind thinking about those details.
