Oh ,and I exercise regularly 3-4 times a week too .I am overweight ,and had 4 kids .

Since we are sharing all…

I had an anal fissure that began after giving birth to S 18 years ago. It never healed and I am very healthy, exercise 4-5 times a week. Finally went to see a specialist 2 years ago. He confirmed it was an anal fissure and gave me a cream - Nifedipine. It is a prescription, but they gave it to me in the office. 6 weeks of using it and I had NO pain, bleeding. Miracle. Should have gone a LONG time ago. BTW, the Dr wanted to do a colonoscopy to rule out anything else. Because I knew when the problem originated, I declined. If the symtoms would have continued, I probably would have changed my mind.

Someone close to me gets them as a complication of another illness. They are quite painful. There are a number of prescription topical medications that can be used. Sitz baths are also supposed to help.

Yep, had one after first baby. Thought it was the hem…from he…but me mum said words nobody ever really wants to hear, “Let me take you to my proctologist.” Oy gevalt!!! Other words nobody ever wants to hear, “You have an anal fissure.” He salved some silver nitrate (I think it was) on it and shazam, fixed. One trick I use (learned it back when preggers) is to use a footstool to raise your feet when going. This puts the body into a more natural semi squat so you don’t have to strain. Am also now reading [Saving the Whole Woman: Whole Woman Store](http://www.wholewoman.com/shop/books-and-dvds/saving-the-whole-woman/) which has lots of info on prolapse and pelvic floor strengthening. Yay to Dr. Oz for bringing that topic out into the open.
