Costco has that newish make up line. Has any one tried any of it? What about the mineral foundation?

Speaking of mineral foundation, any one in the 40+ crowd finding it works well for our age or is it a younger skin thing?

I just looked it up, and it looks (on the web site) very much like the Bare Minerals line, which I love. I’ve been using that for probably a year now. Once you get the hang of applying it, it’s easy and quick and gives your makeup a somewhat professionally applied look. I’m going to look at Costco’s the next time I go. The hardest part for me was finding the right color. You can combine two if you need a color in-between those offered. My 20 year old daughter uses Bare Minerals, I use it (I’m 55) and my 82 year old mother is the one who got us started (she’s still very attractive!). It seems to be for everyone! Post if you try it!

That’s exactly what I don’t want. I want foundation that basically disappears, and when I tried one of the mineral foundations at Sephora (forgot which one), you could really see it.

Maybe I said that wrong. I think it looks like you know how to apply makeup, even if you don’t. A couple of swipes, or swirls, and you’re finished. Maybe you mean the powdery look. I still, after all these years, have oily skin. So I welcome the powder over a liquid foundation. For me, it doesn’t look powdery. It provides the coverage I need. And it stays on. You can apply as much or as little as you want, to get the desired effect. Sometimes it takes some practice, so although you may not like it at first, I wouldn’t give up too quickly.

I still have oily skin too. Does it hide pores?

I agree- I am not very good with makeup and Bare Minerals looks really good- even in MY hands. I wouldn’t mess with the “also ran” brands- go with Bare Minerals-they have stand alone stores in some of the malls with excellent workers to help you learn. Sephora, of course, also carries it, as does Ulta (I think). My one dislike is for travel it comes out of its bottom and gets sort of messy. You need the little travel sizes.
The eye shadows, blushes etc are all good.

I bought the Costco’s version of mineral eye shadows (look for Item # 128718). Just like MofWC, I’m not that great at painting my face (may be because I wear makeup twice a year?), but this stuff made the job much easier. For a moment I even thought, “Hmmm, may be I need to wear makeup more often…”

Can’t vouch for Costco since we aren’t members, but another vote for Bare Minerals.
I HATE makeup, especially foundations of any kind, but brushing on a little of the bare radiance powder evens out my skin tone (used to be freckled, but is now more patchy) and gives a tiny bit of color if you want it- without any powdery or plastered-on feeling.
There is a tendency for the powder to fly off the brush (and it’s so expensive!), so I actually tap a little into a round flat candle lid, of all things-- so I can swirl the brush in it without losing any…
I once tried a drugstore brand (Maybelline, Revlon, or one of those) and liked it NOwhere near as much.

My DDs have used Bare Minerals, but two of them really like the Sephora one which comes with a little sponge applicator instead of a brush.

I looked at Body Shop and then at Costco in the same day, Costco was $20-25 for two jars AND a brush, BS was $25 each item. But still the brushes and the loss of the powder.

I do wear make up when I go out, but not at home and I despise heavy foundations. My DDs Sephora was really nice when I tried it, but I am sorely tempted by the price at Costco and the fact that they often carry items of excellent quality. Interestingly they only had ‘light’ and ‘medium’ no dark, I guess no one in WA gets tan ;)

I’ve often wondered if that stuff is as good as it looks. Sounds like it’s worth a try. Thanks! :)

I use Everyday Minerals and it’s the only reason I wear makeup regularly. I have sensitive skin and every other kind makes me break out – but this stuff is great!

I don’t know how it compares to what’s offered at Costco or by Bare Minerals, but it is the same type of product. And it’s relatively cheap. ;)

Regarding Bare Minerals: can it be applied over moisturizer, or does that make it cake?

A salesperson at Sephora demonstrated Bare Minerals on me. I didn’t like the way it settled into my “fine wrinkles” and seemed to exaggerate my pores. But the salesperson just had me cleanse my face with a wet-wipe kind of thing and applied the minerals on my bare skin without any moisturizer.

Excellent question mafool. I have very dry skin and put on moisturizer immediately after washing my face. I don’t think it would feel very good to put anything powdery on it without moisturizer.

Mafool & Kathie- that is my question, too. Before I open the package and try it, I am waiting a day to see if any one here answers affirmatively. If I don’t hear anything I will give it a try this weekend.

The other tough thing is no testers at Costco, so just guessed on the shade

Can’t comment on Bare Minerals. But I just checked out Costco for the first time and am now a Costco convert from Sam’s. I still have the Sam’s membership but can’t see why I would go there again.

I saw the makeup at Costco and was tempted- so I’m interested in other’s experience with it.

Check the return policy. Costco may not have testers if they will take the product back if you don’t like it.

i’ve tried lots of “mineral foundations” and I do like bare minerals…but!!! I usually have applied a TON of moisturizer, and a liquid foundation…otherwise it does dry out “older” skin…it settles in the lines (that we dont have) and looks yucky. It takes longer to get the hang of using it, I think…though, my niece is using it…and actually with a way too heavy hand. I think the trick with this is to layer it on lightly…go over the areas that need more coverage, and buy the spray that they usually sell, which moistens the look. That does help it look natural…(for makeup) lol. The mineral veil…actually helps even things out…but, instead of that, I usually use a bronzer…cause of my skin tone:)

I am a make up addict…I’ve tried em all. I still use liquid foundation…but I do even it all out with mineral powder…( and do not forget to use it on ur neck and chest…lol
otherwise…fuggedaboudit!

papenga–just making sure I understand: do you use moisturizer and liquid foundation under the Bare Minerals? So you are basically using the Bare Minerals as a setting powder?

D and I have used both Costco brand and Bare Minerals. We both prefer Bare Minerals as the shades match our skin tones better. We use moisturizer under, me more than her.

But Costco has a very generous return policy. I’d be very surprised if they wouldn’t take it back if you were unsatisfied.

If I remember my CRC Food Chemical Handbook, most if not all makeup foundations is mostly “dirt” usually some type of clay.

see movie “Death Becomes Her” :)
