Hi,

I was admitted to the NU.in program but appealed due to a medical issue. My appeal was granted and I was given a list of classes to take in the fall, so i’ll be all caught up for starting at NU in January. But i’m worried that I’ll have a hard time making friends because everyone else will already know people from their time spent abroad. Do you think there are a few other people in the same position as me? I’m just worried they will stick me in a random dorm with no other NU.in kids and all upperclassmen, though I do understand they put me where they have room.

Thanks

There are a lot of kids who start in January, so you will not be alone. I also remember at our hall meeting at the beginning of 2nd semester, they told us where and who the new people in our hall were so we could get to know them. There’s also the advantage of college that all classes start fresh with the semester, so it won’t be like jumping in halfway through a class like would happen if you started at semester in high school.
Also, don’t hesitate to get involved in extracurriculars during your first spring semester! If I am recalling correctly, there is an activities fair held near the start of the spring semester. Don’t worry about awkwardly jumping in partway through the year. It’s not awkward. There are always students coming and going at the semester because of co-op and such. There’s always a ton of stuff going on and they make a point of giving kids in JanStart a chance to get involved, so don’t worry!

thanks i feel better now!

even if you are the only one, no one’s going to care that you started somewhere else
