Does anybody know how these are awarded? I applied this year but just switched majors today (from anthro to animal science). My essay focused on animal science but I’m worried I won’t get a scholarship since I just changed to the major.

Is there a process, like interviewing, for special scholarships? Or, do they just show up in your financial aid summary?

My son did not interview. I think he just got his FA notification online. Last year, the engineering college advisor emailed to say he should submit the special scholarships application to be considered for engineering scholarships and others. This year he was told to submit another application to the engineering college as well. So, I think it varies from year to year and college to college.

You should contact your advisor at your new college (College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences?) and see what they recommend as far as applying for FA.

Yes RMGsmom I will do that. I’m just thinking I cannot get one since I just transferred in. But it doesn’t hurt to ask I guess.

Do you have any tips on summer jobs when you don’t get out until mid June? I’ve been looking and seems like most placed wish you to start in May. I desperately need to find a job at home or something.

The June finish date has always put OSU kids at some disadvantage for summer work. If you can get something related to your major that’s best, but I know lots of kids would be happy to get any work theses days.

Around here, many restaurants have outdoor patios that are open into the fall but they lose a lot of their seasonal servers/bus people when they leave in August for college. They might be interested hiring kids who will be around into September to help out, but you might need to sell the idea. You could also apply online at some of the big box stores near home and then follow-up with phone calls. Definitely check with friends and family for odd jobs. Last summer, my son made some extra cash tutoring, doing lawn and clean-up jobs, waited tables for events, etc while he took summer classes.

I should also add that if you can take enough low cost community college summer claases that transfer to OSU and count toward your degree requirements, you might be able to shave off a term or two at OSU and it would save a bundle. Last summer, it was about $300 for a community college class versus $1300 for an OSU class.

Yes, I was hoping to take physics 112 equivalent, but that will pretty much force me into a fast food or retail job. Maybe I’ll take econ, too, if I can’t find anything else.

I am going to drop resume’s at vet offices, too, over spring break.

Any other animal science/pre -vet student have suggestions for summer work? I’ll be in St. Louis to mi-Missouri area.

I emailed my adviser for arts & science and she told me who to contact for the new major. I had to make an appt with him and sign some papers. OSU changed it online within 1 day after I completed the paperwork. I thought that was really fast.

I think I should have said I am a first year student, not an incoming student. If you want to change your major before entry registration I guess you call admissions.
