"SPECIAL section" of Chem 101?

I was just reading through some course materials, and noticed that there is a “special section” of Chem 101 intended for students who are likely major in a traditional science field. It states that they take the same exact course, but the class is simply smaller.

Does anyone know if this “special section” is harder or more competitive? Do the transcripts denote this at all? If this is still just Chem 101 are all the students (in both the regular and “special” sections) get graded on the same curve?

Oh, and does anyone know how hard Chem 015/016 (Honors Chem) are? Are they a lot more fast paced than Chem 101/102? It would be amazing if someone knew the relative %'s of A’s and B’s given out, etc

The packet I received says that Chem 015/016 is a “two-semester” course. Does this mean we get only one overall grade for the whole year?

I think chem 015 and chem 016 is a normal course sequence, so you get two grades, one for each course.

I don’t know about level of difficulty, as I’m going to be a freshman too this fall too!

the chemistry majors section is harder do not believe the chem dept.

the majors sections are usually always more intense / competitive, especially where vagelos kids are involved…

in all likelihood the special section is on its own curve (and this will not be noted on a transcript, only the general “chem 101”)

chem 015 and 016 are probably like all other college classes, in which the curve is roughly 20% a range, counting +/-, 40% b (+/-), other 40% the rest from c+ down.

So guys,

the vibe I’m getting is that there is no advantage at all in taking these special sections for classes like Chem 101?

From what I can see, the curves are harder and the students are more competitive. But there is no special distinction at all on the transcript? So grad schools, etc. won’t even know that you decided to challenge yourself further and take the hard path???

the only reason to take it is in order to fulfill your own desiring for learning and explore more topics. for most premeds this is not as big of a priority as a good grade unfortunately so i would just take the regular section if i were premed.
