Speech and Debate or School Newspaper Editor/Writer?

Sorry if this isn’t the right place to put this, but I was wondering which of these two would be better for college applications. I only have room in my schedule for one of these electives and I can’t decide which to take. Thank you in advance!

Is one more a leadership position than than the other? If so, go with the leadership opportunity.

Go with the activity which you enjoy more.

My impression is that editors of school publications are not given enough of a boost by admissions committees. Speech & debate looks good on a resume–especially if successful in competitions. Newspaper editor should get a lot of credit, but authoring an article is an easy accomplishment to share with adcomms.
