Spencer

As everyone probably knows, room assignments are out. I’m in Spencer. I’ve been looking through threads here but none of them really speak to Spencer itself, just to the surrounding Kenan Community. Can anyone tell me something about the dorm Spencer itself? Will it be full of upperclassmen? Is it fun? Any cons?

Spencer sits by itself across the street from the rest of the Kenan Community… I’ll list pros and cons:

Pros:

 1. Spencer is on Franklin St., so the location is amazing.
 2. Spencer backs up to the beautiful Arboretum.
 3. You’re on North Campus, so you’re much closer to classes…
 4. The Kenan Community RAs are typically really outgoing and are good about reaching out to freshmen.
 5. You’ll only have to cross one street to get to the main campus area instead of the “crossing two streets at the light” that everyone else in the Kenan Community has to do.
 6. The Package Center for North Campus is in Spencer, so you won’t have to go far to pick up your packages… ; -)
 7. The annual Haunted House is also in the basement of Spencer!

Cons:

 1. Spencer is beautiful from the outside but the inside is pretty old and dated…
 2. Housing usually groups freshmen together, so there will definitely be freshmen in your dorm, just not to the extent of South Campus. In my experience from living on a hall, the freshmen are usually put in rooms near each other.

Hope this helps! : -)

I lived in Mciver as d freshman and will be returning to live there as a sophomore. The only significant downside to living on N campus as a freshman is that all the other Freshman (majority of your friends) will be On S campus which makes coordinating stuff difficult and a long walk back to your dorm after a night out.
