So, I fell off the wagon the last 2 days…half way through the month. Not mindless spending, but spending nonetheless.
I have plantar fasciitis and only 3 sandals for that. I told myself at the end of last summer, I was purchasing a few more. I shouldn’t really wear flat sandals, but I do when I don’t have a lot of walking to do. But I can’t get through the summer in that, especially vacation coming up.
So, I bought a pair of Vionics…it kills me spending $100, but I know they will feel great. They are also in wide. I’m also looking at a pair of cute Abeo’s for $119, but have not ordered yet.
I did take an inventory of my summer clothing and decided I needed 1 or 2 more casual drssses, 2 pair of shorts and 4 casual tops to wear with my shorts. It seems I gravitate towards tops to wear out at night rather than during the day.
So, I bought one cute top at loft for $39, worth it! And a pair of nicer shorts at WHBM for $50…fancier shorts. A dress at Nordstrom for $55. So, close to $250.
I’m not done yet.
However, I haven’t spent on nickel and dime items I’m famous for.
IMO a pair of good shoes are worth the investment. If you like them and they feel good on your feet you can get years of wear out of them!
Mindful spending has continued for me so far this month. I get a lot of satisfaction from how my home looks and my living room needs a spring uplift. I’m hoping to spend a little time this weekend doing a window seat uplift for my living room - new covering for the cushion and some new fresh pillows - a simple, cost effective way to upgrade and uplift!
will be continuing the Spending Freeze, as our accountant just finished our taxes. Owe a little more than anticipated. Dang. Accountant also ran numbers for new tax plan…and we’ll be paying a lot more next year. The California penalty… :((
I know I keep yammering about letting the list be boss. This technique really worked for me on a recent trip to REI. I had a gift card, and a list for my summer hiking trip. I stuck to the list.
Also, I experienced retail sticker shock. I found a pair of list-approved summer hiking pants I liked at REI, but did not buy them, because $$$. When I got home, I found them on eBay for a little less than 1/4 the tag price at REI.
I did fondle some carry on luggage at REI, but again, NOT on the list. Move on, even if I like the REI luggage so much better than the thrift store luggage (but perfectly functional!) I already have.
I was doing well until a few days ago. I adopted a new dog on Sunday, and he cost only $155 because he’s a senior (11). On Tuesday, I found out he has cancer. Ka-ching.
Yesterday I spent $12 on a haircut and $10 on a tip because I liked the haircut so much! I get my hair cut a couple times a year. Otherwise, I haven’t spent much on anything. We’ve had too many setbacks. Had to fix three cars- $2500. Furnace went out when it was really cold $4800. We never eat out (only on birthdays) so can’t really cut back much in other areas.
I’ve been focusing on spring cleaning and sorting through 20 boxes from my mom’s house so I’m too busy to yearn for a shopping fix.
@psychmomma I used to have my hair very very short, so short I had it razored around the ears. Then in February, 2008 my husband’s job was eliminated right after my D had major lung surgery. There went our income and health insurance. I immediately stopped cutting my hair every 3 weeks and now only get it cut 2x a year. When it comes down to getting a hair cut, buying some bread and PB or getting a little gas in order to get to work, the hair cut immediately loses out. I am now used to the long hair.
@rosered55, yes, that is terrible and I’m very sorry. We rescued a dog and, shortly thereafter he contracted heart worm. It ended up being terribly expensive to deal with. I hope that’s not the case for you.
I haven’t bought anything “mindless” but we’re starting a remodel at the end of the month and have been spending left and right. We have to be out of the house the first 3 weeks so we’re going to Australia (!) for my bucket list trip (went on dh’s bucket list trip 10 years ago) so we’re spending left and right on that too. So, we’re definitely not saving any money right now but at least I’m not adding to it with mindless spending.
Well, just blew a bunch of $$$ on pants at the Rack. They had 40% off women’s apparel. Max Mara pants that retailed at Notdstrom for $399 are mine for $67. I do need mid-range pants as mine are either too casual (khakis and jeans) or too suit-like (wool, solid color). I have been eyeing this pair for a couple of months!
