sperm question on science portion of september ACT

anyone think they will throw this question out?

oh and that one style question dealing with the train ride on the english portion…did anyone put the answer choice saying something about 1000 miles? a lot of people put some raindrop thing but i dont recall it asking for imagery…and i know for sure the postcard answer was incorrect

No, they will not throw the question out. You do have to know some things about science.

On the english, you are talking about two questions. There was one where the right answer was 1000 miles… and then on the next one I remember what you were talking about. YES, it did say that. You had to read the full question. It said which would best reflect the imagery or image whatever of the train.

lol at the topic

wow. are you really that sensitive to meiosis?

aite thnx 10char

YouserName… i was wondering if they would throw it out because it requires background bio2 knowledge

For the science question, i’ve never taken biology and i knew that was the answer.

and for the English questions, one asked for a visual description. One answer was smell, one was feel and the one they already had was something that wasn’t visual ( i forgot that option). The other asked which one shows how long the journey would be ( or something like that) so the correct answer would be 1000 miles left to go.

hope this helped.

This is like asking if the SAT will toss out the 15 vocabulary questions on the test because they require prior knowledge and\or memorization.

I can’t see a logical reason why it would be tossed. At least this is useful knowledge unlike the worthless memorization required for the SAT.

No…first of all, there was enough information in the passage to answer the question. Second, isn’t it pretty common knowledge that a sperm with half the chromosomes and an egg with half the chromosomes unite to form a zygote with all the chromosomes?

As for English, you’re thinking of different questions. The 1000 miles was a description of the countryside and is correct. The raindrops was vivid imagery describing his arrival at the train station. And no, there was no correct answer involving postcards (IIRC that was an answer choice to the imagery question).

Yes, as jamesford said, there were TWO questions. I don’t think I made that very clear in my entry, my bad.

was that answer A?
