SPF Moisturizer for DS

Looking for an SPF moisturizer for my young professional son. I’m thinking if it’s in a pumper (or if I could put it in a pumper), he’d be more likely to use it. He is very fair, inherited my dry skin and I know he’ll appreciate it down the road if he’d just get into the habit of using it regularly. I’m afraid he’ll just pitch it if it’s not a product made specifically for men. I’ve seen a Jack Black moisturizer but it’s almost $50 which seems to expensive for a trial run…Any suggestions?

TBH, that’s really going to have to be a personal decision. Some like the feel of some products versus others. Personally, I use Clinique for Men. And I have no doubt that it’s the same basic product as the women’s version except that it comes in masculine dark grey packaging. :)) But choosing was through trial and error with various brands. There are certainly cheaper products marketed to men. like Lubriderm and Dove, but if the guy doesn’t like it, he won’t use it.

Neutrogena makes a whole line of facial creams/lotions marketed to men.
My guess is instead of a light blue tube they stuck the same product in a black one to make it “manly” !
(I’ll have to check it out–might be cheaper for me!)

Very good products and relatively cheap. I saw the “Neutrogena® Men Triple Protect Face Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 20” is 7 bucks which is more what you’re looking for I assume.

They do make an oil-free moisturizer in a pump that is “generic” --a white bottle. I like it because it has no smell and feels dry immediately. About 12 bucks.

Cetaphil makes several moisturizers with SPF. Although they are not specifically for men, my two sons with beards use the brand religiously. There is really no smell. I began using it on the younger of the 2 when he was a baby and had eczema. I buy the big one at Costco and keep it in the bathroom, but if your S lives away from home, Walmart has SPF 50 in a 1.75 oz. tube for about $13.

I use it on my hands and legs.

Aveeno makes some - my husband uses it on his bald head (as recommended by his dermatologist)

There are several brands recommended by my dermatologists over the years. All have gender neutral packaging: CeraVe A.M.; Neutrogena Moisture (white bottle, A.M. for sunscreen); Aveeno and Cetaphil (any face lotion–check labels for SPF).

All of these are relatively scent-free (except for the SPF chemicals) and are good for all skin types.

I use the CeraVe AM that @Massmom just mentioned. No scent and absorbs quickly. My derm recommended it.

I’ve been using La Roche Posay lately after using Neutrogena and CeraVe for years. It has a really nice smooth consistency and the ones with sunscreen don’t have that icky texture that some moisturizers with sunscreen tend to have. The Toleraine and Hydraphase are both nice, some come in pump bottles and though not packaged for men the packaging is very neutral, white bottles with black and blue lettering.

Our men use Neutrogena too. Our dermatologist recommended for fair, sensitive skin.

My husband also uses Cetaphil. It differs from some of the others in that they make one which is oil free (with SPF).

When my son had windburn from snowboarding a few years back he stole by LXMI Nilotica Melt – now he is addicted to it. He had a lot to choose from when he raided my moisturizer stash but think he was attracted to to this one because it comes in a black container and is fragrance free. He’s a no frills sort of guy and doesn’t do any sort of “products” in general. LXMI is also all natural.

My son uses Cetaphil. He had horrible acne in his teens, and the derm recommended Cetaphil.

If you aren’t sure what he will like and use, get a few different small containers as stocking stuffers so he can try them and then buy s bigger bottle once he finds one he likes. You don’t want to have huge bottles no one likes—wasteful.

Elta MD is another good line of products with SPF protection for those with a tendency to break out.

Once he knows what he likes and works for him, Costco, Sam’s and Target have pretty decent prices in larger sized bottles.
