Spies and Lawyers - Harvey Weinstein

The intrigue continues,

This is sort of old news – it came out 2-3 weeks ago. David Boies has already apologized, and the New York Times fired him pretty publicly.

The two NYT reporters were on Fresh Air yesterday. One interesting bit: Of course, Weinstein’s ex-Mossad investigators were trying to find out what the reporters knew. The investigators approached the reporters in the guise of women’s rights advocates organizing a glitzy conference on sexual harassment, dangling hints of big speaking fees to try to rope them in to “planning” that would no doubt have plumbed the sorts of things they could talk about that would make news, etc. The investigators didn’t get anywhere, though, because what they were hinting at would have been a clear violation of NYT ethics standards, so the journalists simply said, “Sorry, we can’t do anything like that” and hung up. They only found out that the approach was completely bogus months later from Farrow’s article.

They also said that many people had tried to report the story in the past, and Weinstein had always succeeded in keeping the allegations out of print. Many of the women they talked to had told their stories to 2-3 reporters in the past, only to see nothing come of it. The spent a lot of time convincing people that Weinstein wasn’t going to be successful trying to bully the New York Times.

Anyway, a little object lesson in what’s different between the New York Times and Fox News.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:
In addition to being old news, there was a 48 page thread that ended up getting closed, so opening up a new one is not an option. Closing.
