Spinning Silver – December CC Book Club Selection

Our December selection is Spinning Silver by Nebula award-winning author Naomi Novik. The CC Book Club is exploring new territory with this selection, which NPR calls “one of the year’s strongest fantasy novels.” Spinning Silver is inspired by the fairy tale “Rumpelstiltskin," but takes the old story to new places, resulting in "an affirming, uplifting, multilayered, and wholly original novel, filled with indomitable women who doubt themselves and stumble and get up more determined than ever; slippery villains who flash with unexpected depths just as you avert your gaze; and breathtaking, world-shattering magic.” (Barnes and Noble)

Discussion begins December 1st. Please join us!

I ordered my book on ebay!!! Looking forward to reading this book.

I’m starting Spinning Silver today. I figure I can read at leisure if I allow myself some time. It looks really good. I’m looking forward to both book and discussion.

Love the Temeraire series…and just realized that I have missed the last few! This sounds interesting.

@ignatius I started it, too! ( I really like it so far).

Listening to the audiobook, free from the library and, thus far, loving it. Only on chapter 2, but an audiobook has to be really interesting to keep me coming back in fits and spurts of time.

I started it last night. I’m enjoying it so far, I think it will also provide some interesting conversation.

Still #60 on the library waitlist and #30 on the audio waitlist. Not sure I will get there in time.

Really? It’s on the shelf at my local library. I’m going to go get it in a few minutes.

I ordered my book on ebay! I bought it hardback used for $11.00. Our library did not have it. I will donate it after we finish our discussion.

Ok, just placed a hold on this book at our library. Hope they notify me soon to pick it up. It sounds interesting.

Just placed a hold on this at my library. Hopefully they will get it to my favorite branch soon so I can get started.

Jumping in to book club for the first time. I have Spinning Silver on hold from the library; in the meantime, I read Uprooted, by the same author. A long book, but I really enjoyed it. I’m looking forward to SS.

Welcome, @KnearSeattle!

Like others started reading it! Welcome new folks !

Just started reading it today and am about 1/2 way into the book. It reminds me of my childhood, getting absorbed by different worlds. Yay for public libraries!

Finished it a few days ago. Pretty quick read. I think there will be lots to discuss.

I went to the library last week and there it was, sitting on the shelf in the New Books area.

Devoured it. Loved it.

Just started it last night and am so far enjoying it. Kids will be with their dad’s family over Thanksgiving, so a quiet weekend with a small meal and a good book (and perhaps a little shopping thrown in). Can’t wait!

Still on the waitlist. Now number 31 on ereader and 13 on audible. There are no hard copies on the list. They only just added the ereader in October.
