SPOILERS!! Anyone ready to discuss Gilmore Girls-A Year In The Life

I enjoyed parts of it a lot, but not crazy about ending, even if that’s what the writer had in mind all along. I followed news different actors coming on board and watching this it seemed as though it was written around the actors that were first to agree to participate - maybe why there seemed to be more of some characters than others. A lot of Paris (great), not enough of Jess, over-long play (though funny), no Liz and TJ in person but Francie, etc.

In preparation for this, I’ve watched the re-runs a number of times and was commenting to daughter that on closer viewing, in the old series Lorelai was not a great person all the time. She acted on impulse and messed up lots of opportunities (one bad fight with Luke over April and she sleeps with Christopher) and she is often as mean to her mom as mom is to her. Rory had her bad girl moment then and I know they needed drama for reunion but I agree that is seemed like a weird story line. Affair with Logan with no sense of wrong doing was bad IMO.

I would have like to seen her marginally successful in journalism (tough career) and doubting whether to continue, then perhaps having encounter with Logan and getting his take, coming close to getting pulled back into his world and then seeing and talking with Jess. Jess has written a book. Maybe have him encourage a new path for Rory and have her make a tough choice. I could have understood one night stand with Logan without realizing he’s engaged. Still could have had her pregnant.

Didn’t like the musical–could have had 15 minutes more of Jess or Paris or even Lane rather than these obviously talented strangers filling up the screen (yes I know Sutton Foster and Christian Borle, I mean strangers to the GG universe). Best parts of that whole story line: wanting to end the show with 9 ABBA songs and “I Feel the Earth Move” not being “catchy.”

I don’t think it can be a Wookiie baby since that happened in Spring, and unless Rory hides it very well, she was not that pregnant at the end. Most likely Logan from the Brigade visit to the B and B, unless she and Jess drank too much scotch at the Gazette and got busy in the archive room.

I liked the Parenthood cameos from Mae Whitman, Jason Ritter, and Peter Krause. Thought it was funny we finally met Mr. Kim!

Overall I had a pleasant comfy feeling about the new episodes, even if there were specific moments or story lines I didn’t enjoy.

PS I keep thinking about the fact that the series was supposed to end the same way when Rory was much younger (24 or so?). What would you have thought if the series had ended that way 8 years ago?

Once those last four words were uttered, all 3 Ds and I simultaneously yellled, “NOOOOOOOOOO!!”. We were all so disappointed. Loved the first two episodes but it really went downhill from there.

Agree with others that Rory didn’t “age” well over the last 10 years. That affair with Logan while he had a GF and then fiancee was awful although I thought it was clear that Logan would have broken up with Odette in a moment if Rory had given him any encouragement. And her treatment of Paul was so out of character. Also out of character was her lack of preparation for her interviews. I did enjoy Paris being Paris but would have loved an explanation as to how she ended up so far from where she had wanted to be professionally. Still love Luke.

But that play…wow. Way too long and, to me, completely boring. I kept thinking about how it was a waste of time when we could be seeing characters we cared about and further plot development. Yes, fun to see the cameos. Overall, very mixed for my daughters and me.

If the “mom I’m pregnant” had happened why she was 22, it would have had much more impact. Rory was so set on having a career, and having a kid then would have derailed that. It would have mirrored her mother’s life more. The decisions facing her would have been agonizing. But now we’ve seen that she’s made a wreck of her career, plus she’s 32 - being pregnant just isn’t as big of a deal, not as life altering.

I was just able to binge watch this today. It was pretty good, okay. Of course, I wonder if they are open to another series of some sort since it had that ending. I just want to kill Logan. But in anticipating this special, I really thought she would end up with Jess.

I liked the Carole King cameo!>>>>>>>

I know! I loved it when they didn’t like her song. LOL.

I love Logan. Always have. Just love them together. Even when I don’t like Rory so much.

I’ve always been conflicted about Lorelei. And I like that sometimes I like/dislike her behavior. Same for Emily.

Has anyone rewatched it yet? I watched a second time (and will probably watch it again). I caught things that I missed the first time and generally liked it better this time. I even liked the play and it didn’t seem as long as I thought it was. If I can just remember next time to turn it off immediately after the wedding, and before the last four words, it will be perfect. Lol. I’m not against the end if we get another season, but it doesn’t seem likely.

I loved Logan on The Good Wife ;). Miss that show so much and hope Matt Czuchry finds another series.

Just finished it a little while ago. There were things I thought were left hanging in the first three episodes (for instance, didn’t Paris say she had missed her last period? I expected that a pregnancy would re-unite her with Doyle somehow) and things that were just fluff like the amount of time spent on the play. The song that impacted Loralei was a tearjerker, but I didn’t need that much Stars Hollow musical to get us to that emotional crossroads with Loralei. I was so rooting for Logan until the last episode, but am ready to let him go since he didn’t seem ready to choose Rory over the never seen Odette. Jess clearly has feelings for Rory and I want to see those explored. If I were rating individual episodes, a 3/5 would be generous for the first three, but I would give the Fall episode a 4.5.
I hope there will be another season.

Just finished watching. Loved Jess but I guess either Logan or Paul is the dad. Overall, I liked it and the ending does leave it open for more .

^more likely her one night stand guy

Ok–just wondering if anyone thought the the GF of Logan is actually a guy?
Crazy but there were a couple of tiny spans to the person in the bed where he/she made me wonder.
And I think that Logan could be gay.
We have never met his GF, right?

I doubt it. Logan was quite devoted to Rory. A gay with such devotion to a girl is not believable. I think the bay is Logan’s so that they can drag out a money drama that the show seemed to crave, buying a club overnight paying cash, etc. You got money and you do dumb things. The last season was so absurd.

The other thing I didn’t buy was the Wookie thing-I think she may have just been kidding about that. But, if it did happen, it was months before the ending and she seemed to have just recently found out she was pregnant. Paul had also just broken up with her at the end which is why I thought it would be either Logan or Paul .

I loved the reboot and have watched each episode 3 times now. Apparently there was not a big wedding at the end as it would have required more money than they had left. The opening scene in Winter with Rory and Lorelai by the gazebo was disappointing in that it felt forced and out of step; as if it was the first take ever and the actors had forgotten the cadence in Rory and Lorelai’s speech. Happily they found their footing thereafter and it was back to the old way of talking. I felt the play was too long but loved the never or now song and Sutton Foster. It seemed like the Palladino’s were creating a vehicle to showcase Sutton Foster by putting this play in unnecessarily. More Lane, more Jess and Rory and even Miss Patty, would have been preferable. Loved Lorelai “exercising” in front of Luke in order to get into her wedding dress…Lauren Graham is just great. Loved the Luke and Lorealai journey. Very much hope there will be more. One bit of continuity issue which grated; Luke called Emily, Emily in Winter yet in Spring and thereafter he called her Mrs. Gilmore. I know that Amy Sherman Palladino wrote Winter and Daniel Palladino wrote Spring…but someone should have picked it up.
