Spoofs? Will the officers know what I'm talking about?

Ok. I’m applying to college X. College X has a prompt that basically in short is a Why College X? essay. In the essay I have to talk about why College X is a good fit, why I would do well, why I want to study my intended major there, etc.

Now, I haven’t written the essay yet, but I have a good idea for it. I’m going to do a funny spoof of the movie Its a wonderful life. Where in my case, its a wonderful X. I’ll talk about what I’d miss out on if I didn’t go or apply thru my guardian guidance counselor.

My question: Does everyone know It’s a wonderful life? Is it too esoteric of an essay? If I write it, is there a chance that a admissions officer will have no idea what I’m talking about?

Even if he doesn’t…its still a great plot.

theyll get it.

I think most people know it, even if they’ve never actually seen it. Plus, there are plenty of spoofs of it in other movies/shows, so the likelihood of an adult having never seen it/heard of it/seen a spoof of it is pretty low. I think you’re safe.

It’s a cool idea, too.

What everyone else said. A Wonderful Life is a classic. It’s a great idea!

I just thought I’d put in that I don’t know the movie, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the admissions officer wont/it’s not a good topic.
