ah me too. LOVE watching gymnastics

RSA yo said sports take no skill…your point is not valid because it is obvious you play none. TRy hitting a 95 mph fastball, make a diving catch and throw someone out, make a 3-pointer, or make a 30 yard catch while knowing 3 line backers are ready to pummel you. Sports all require something music does not have… hand-eye coordination.( and don’t tell moving your fingers is the same, that is muscle memory not hand-eye coordination)

I’ve always been too tall for them. I went to a studio a few towns over for lessons when I was a little kid…meh. Even then I was a good half a foot to a foot taller than the other kids there. lol, I never had a chance at gymnastics.

::edit::

Adding to what D.Ranger said…catching line drives hurts like hell if you don’t get them in the right part of the glove…and getting hit in the head by a line drive hurts even worse (obviously). I’ve never been given a black eye and stitches while playing a video game…just saying.

And how do you think we read music and play at the same time? It’s different, but still requires hand-eye coordination.

The start of this thread was the college often overrate kids who play sports, giving them more credit then those that do other things

As for the football thing…yeah…I find it facsinating that when some guys win, the vicotry is a personal one for those that watched

Yeah, we are # 1…the internalization of anothers triumphs…

My D school is in the rivalry with another school and its gets ridiculous in its intensity

People definitely live vicariously through athletes. I mean, it’s great motivation to have a crowd cheering you on and music to pump you up, but it’s really the kids and coaches (and parents) that did the work.

It depends all on how much effort you put into each. Obviously someone playing for the Yankees (or whichever top-notch team) probably did not put much more effort in than someone that has won the Van Cliburn competition.

amen D.Ranger

SPORTS>music (anyday)

why do colleges give so much credit to sports…because people on varsity teams are actually athletic…college want athletic, outgoing, kids with lives and not snobby musicians, why? athletes improve the schools image…I mean, if i visit a school A and school B. If school A is filled with healthy, normal, athletic kids, I would want to go there. Now, if i visit school B and I see a bunch of obsessed abnormal musicians, i would be sick…i’ll just throw up that instance…

The OP is obviously attempting to belittle athletics because he can’t make a sports team.

yea… the girl who dumped me, i never really liked her anyways

Unwritten, 3-4 hours a week 6 days a week is not at all unusual for a musician. In fact, for anyone aspiring to become professional musicians, it’s rather low. Violinmasterclass, com, for example, reccomends that amount of time (except seven days a week) as an absolute minimum for teenagers who want to be professional violinists.

Edit: Wow, that will teach me to leave a page open on my computer for an hour before responding to it. The post I was replying to is buried somewhere a few pages back.

You’ve got to be kidding me. Seriously. This is the most inane comment I’ve ever seen on this board. If that’s true, why isn’t Tom Brady playing tennis in the off season?
I agree – one hundred percent. It’s just jealousy/bitterness.

Rhapsody in Green… The people here at just jealous at musicians cuz they spend hours everyday fixing every single detail and polishing… Its not easy

i agree yougotjohn…

all musicians actually want to be athletes. thats why at my high school I see kids in band with GENERIC VARSITY BAND JACKETS…w t f…varsity band jackets with letters? gimme a break…

Tae…not all musicians are like the typical band nerd image that comes to mind.

People always assume that I play a lot of sports (or dance) because I’m tall, thin, and am apparently too normal-looking for band and debate.

I don’t… I don’t want to be perceived as a smelly gross person…

athletics are stressed too much… Its no wonder the world is filled with unseophisticated people, not people whose idea of a “night out” is going to a classical concert or opera

katho11 i agree, but ur prolly an exception

bach, your just too sophisticated for the rest of us. Grow up.

Yeah, I guess we’re all just sweaty, unsophisticated jerks who aren’t enlightened enough to see that you’re correct.

Colleges don’t really care if you did sports in High School. Unless, of course, you were recruited.

AMEN!!!

why did u begin the forum by sayin its overvalued???
