Sports Illustrated Cover-NYT opinion piece

I found that cover photo just ick.

But I still laugh when I think about a tv ad I saw a few years ago: A woman walking out in a garden with unkempt plants, and as she walked by each shrub it miraculously pruned itself into some cute image. I thought it was a very clever communication that was completely G-rated. Unlike the front cover of SI.

I’m so thankful to be out of the dating pool and having to listen to men telling me how they want me to ‘trim’. And so early in the relationship too (first, second, third dates!)!! I am stunned. This is not a healthy trend in my opinion. Personal preference is one thing, but being told is quite another.

arabrab,
Any chance you could find that ad on youtube?

A long time ago, a sibling of mine hung out with a group of young women who hung out in some not all that great bars and clubs. Some of them befriended waitresses and dancers who worked in the clubs where they hung out. There was pressure to have sex with customers. To their credit, most of these young women resisted. Some, however, caved to the pressure and the group would drop them.

One indication that a young woman had “gone pro” was that she got rid of her pubic hair. It was a lice control measure. Back in those days before AIDS, one of the biggest risks of having extramarital sex for men was getting lice which they would then pass on to their wives. When you only had lice in your public area and not on your head, most people knew how you got it. So customers would ask for women who had no pubic hair.

I can even remember an old Dan Wakefield book in which one of the characters tells his wife he got “crabs” from a toilet. She shoots back “She must have been some toilet.”

So, as odd as this may sound to young women I associate “going bare down there” with commercial sex. I guess in a world of casual hook ups, it makes sense.

Greenwitch, I’m not saying that every woman who does x, y, or z does it for her. I’m saying that not every woman who does or doesn’t do x, y, or z does it for her partner/sex.

Look, I’ll take shaving my legs for example to avoid any kind of TMI. I shave my legs all the time and have been since before I was even dating. I do not like the feeling of hair and if I get stubble, it bugs me. So I shave. Not for my partner, not for anyone else (I mean, it is winter- the only person who is going to see my legs is my partner so it would only be for me or him and he doesn’t give a hoot), but for me.

The fact that men insist that a woman shave or was the pubic area feels fetish-y to me. Almost as if that is more important that being with a living, breathing, real woman.

Ewww.

Roman, I started waxing legs in college. In a few years, the hair grew back so slowly, that I would just pluck the strands. I’ve never had to shave since. No stubble, no rough stuff.

I understand that women do it for choice but going back 30 years or more, there wasn’t so much outside pressure on women to do it. Certainly not to go all bare. You wouldn’t want anything showing with your bathing suit but that was the only pressure, and thong bathing suits hadn’t come here yet.

Speaking of women being displayed like young girls, has anyone seen Selena Gomez’s spread in V?

OMG. I clicked on the link sylvan8798 posted and then, at the bottom of that link, clicked on “the full photoshoot at V magazine.” In the second picture, she looks like she could be five years old. Very creepy.

Here it is: http://www.vmagazine.com/site/content/3778/selena-gomez-in-v94#!/2

Both the SI cover & the selena gomez photos smack of pedophilia.

Ick. Ickety ick. At least SI model looks like she is of the age of consent.

@jym626‌ I can’t find the original add, but here is another in the same vein: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x94wxg_schick-trim-style_fun

And this one plumb made me laugh: turnaround is definitely fair play https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFHuVHUc5DI “I went into the forrest, and couldn’t see any tree.”

lol!

So are the MEN shaving their private areas totally smooth too? I’m just curious and don’t see why they chouldn’t if they expect their partners to shave. Somehow, that just sounds very painful-shaving, waxing and possibly nicking that sensitive area.

This thread is getting very weird…

getting?

True that. They had me at landing pad (so to speak).

“This thread is getting very weird…”

And some kiddos peeking into the Parental Café thought the Colonoscopy thread was weird…
