The issue with the Selena Gomez shoot for me is the kiddie bow in her hair. She cant help it she has a baby face. The whole bow thing gives it the ick factor.
She does have a baby face, but the hair, the bow, the clothes add baby-ness to the whole look. It is really creepy.
Well, nowadays, there is no “garden.” As DH put it, “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.”
LOL.
Selena Gomez is 22 and they are more than capable of making her LOOK 22, as opposed to looking like some 6-year-old done up for a “beauty” pageant.
I asked my esthetician once if she had a lot of male clients, and she in fact said she did. She stated that they were almost all married. I wonder if in those cases the wife is requesting the “man-scaping”?
One of DH’s male friends told him he is doing this. I was so shocked because this guy is SUCH a “Bubba.” We live in Texas, where summer temps routinely get way past 100 degrees. He told DH that it really cuts down on the summer time chafing (as the hair holds onto sweat and creates a “hostile” environment).
Nrdsb4, love it!!
Yes, men also “manscape.” Well, younger men, anyway. Although I haven’t discussed it with my peers (50’s), I suspect there are fewer of us who do it than those in their 20’s - 30’s. On the tv show Blackish this week, Rainbow discovered that gray hairs had moved in … it was subtle enough that I wonder if the millenials even got the joke.
^^^^Jumps up and down-I did! I got it! And thought that scene was pretty funny! That whole episode was great.
I love Blackish, its so much like our family, especially the episode about “the nod”
I have enough to think about keeping the wild hairs in check that appear above the Mason Dixon Line.
I was once at a law firm retreat and was shocked to see one of my male partners in the pool with a heavy carpet of hair on his back. My first thought was, “I can"t believe his wife doesn’t make him wax that off.” So, I guess I’m a woman guilty of imposing my own standards of grooming on men.
Very interesting:
D2 came in town last night and a few minutes ago, plopped down on the couch and said she’d seen Fifty Shades of Grey Thursday night. Among other comments she made was that the lead actress is shown completely nude and that it didn’t appear she was trimmed up at all and that it “was so gross.” I just shook my head but didn’t comment. I know that I find unshaved armpits to be “gross,” but there was a time when that was seen as completely normal and expected. These kinds of things are highly influenced by our culture, and let’s face it, our culture with regard to hair and hair removal continues to evolve.
I wonder if at some point it will be “gross” to have hair on our heads, or anywhere at all on our bodies.
When we gave been at the beach, there is an amazing assortment of people and varying chest hair visible. Some males have so much hair that it appears initially to be a mat of seaweed, but isn’t.
I guess having that much hair could definitely trap bacteria and produce odors, so frequent showering or bathing would be a high priority.
Personally, I wish guys would shave their armpits. All that hair is just gross. And pointless.
Olfactory cues are very important in finding a partner with whom you can have healthy children, so I imagine the hair is helpful for that.

As long as you wash, I don’t see a problem with underarm hair on either men or women. I admit I don’t shave, but my body hair is quite sparse and strawberry blond. I do trim up outside of the bathing suit area.
I swim every week and while the amount of body hair on some of the men did take a little getting used to, now I barely notice.
However, I am reminded of when I used to be a hair stylist, and had a great many men as clients. I would always trim up the back of their neck when I was done, but there were a few where you couldn’t tell where their head hair ended and their body hair began!
I think this thread might help SI sell a couple more copies of the swimming suit issue.
If my evaluation is correct, this photo could fall into the “implied” Genre. It is quite popular.

D1 had this on her FB page last week.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue - How Is This Still a thing?
Sorry. Having trouble posting the link.
I just asked H, who is an ob-gyn, what % of his patients are all bare. He said over 50%. Wow.
I assume most of his patients are in the baby-carrying years and are younger?
