It’s that time of the year again. Time for idiotic debate over the choice of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit edition covergirl. This year’s choice is Ashley Graham, the first Size-16 model.
She is very pretty and on one hand I applaud the choice…but after years of featuring only thin models this hardly makes up for it. And let’s face it - what the heck does a soft core porn issue have to do with sports anyway?
I didn’t know what BB was talking about with the 56-year-old model, so I googled it, and I’m very sorry to say that I think she looks 10 years older than 56 – at least in the picture I saw. Man, that’s depressing to me, somehow.
(I’ve seen other pictures of that model where she looks great, but I’ve always assumed she was in her mid-60s).
abasket, I think she has a fine body for a 56 yr old. The problem is her skin… The lighting makes her skin look dull and aged. The colors are too artificial, and the shiny bikini does not help, IMO. Neither does the hair.
I love the plus sized model but I suspect she’s been heavily photoshopped. They probably removed any bulges or rolls and smoothed all the edges. It would be nice to see a before and after.
I also heard that Lindsay Vonn and other athletes were photographed with body paint mimicking a bathing suit.
Why do you say that (that many 56++ year old women will feel good about themselves when seeing the issue)? I’m not following your point. Do you think she looks great for her age (and thus affirming) or much older (thus making the viewer feel good by comparison), or something else?
I’m 51 and the images depressed me because I thought she looked old. That in turn makes me think that maybe my own self-image is delusional. I’d rather look at pictures of young-looking 50-somethings.
I think that model is usually cast to play someone in her late '60s. I think I’ve seen her in retirement ads or other similar settings. I’ve always assumed she was at least 15-years older than me.
