Spots on laundry after washing?

I’m just a student but I know on this matter who to ask.
I just did laundry and one of my clothes has this bizarre white-yellowish stain on it (pic here: http://i34.■■■■■■■.com/2qbbv46.jpg</a>) and I was wondering what was causing this? A couple of loads ago, I had another stain just like it on a green shirt and though I was upset, I wrote it off as a one-time occurrence. Does anyone know what the problem is? Thanks in advance!

It looks like a bleach stain of some kind. Was it laundered in a commercial machine? I wonder if something left behind- a piece of dry powdered bleach - may have been in the machine when you put your load in.

Did the shirt possibly come in contact with bleach? There could have been a drop on the counter that you set your clothes on or something you bumped up against. Especially if you’re in a laundromat or using the dorm’s machines. Cleaners with bleach will also leave marks like that if they splash on your clothes.

There was a recent thread on the Purex all in one sheets leaving spots on clothes, especially in front loaders. Did you by chance use those? If so, get hand cleaner from the auto parts store [Goop Multi-Purpose Hand Cleaner](http://www.goophandcleaner.com/). Rub it on the spot, let sit for awhile and launder again.

We’ve gotten weird, bleach-like spots on towels and clothes from teenagers’ anti-acne facial cleansers (turns things an odd orange color) and from dabs of whitening toothpaste spattering onto dark colored cotton clothing. I haven’t found a way to fix those spots once they’ve happened.

Here is the thread I mentioned.

It def looks like a bleach spot, if so, not much you can do about it except maybe get a sharpie that matches :)

Thanks for all the help! It might be bleach, but actually I think maybe shyalunit is right… I think a little bit of toothpaste got on there, and I just tossed it in the wash since it was going out soon- if that’s what really happened, how bizarre! Anyways, thanks so much, I knew I would get great (and quick) responses here!
srw: my mom said we should go out and buy some paint! :P

Hey so lesson learned: rinse off anything before tossing it in the laundry pile. And your mom’s not off base either. I’ve touched up these kind of stains with laundry markers and sharpies. Depending on the color you’re starting with and the size/location of the stain, you can fix the infraction.

Some acne/facial products have ingredients that make bleach-like stains on fabrics. We have lots of towels with spots like these left over from the years mine were teens.

Permanent markers are great. They will fade in time, but just reapply.

bleach, or peroxicide by chance?

No, plain old toothpaste won’t do that. Bleach, Proactiv, and Clearasil will. I wouldn’t mess with bleach, if I were a college student.

Yes, acne medicine will leave those marks. Often, acne medicine contains hydrogen peroxide, which is basically bleach. So it will leave spots on any colors it touches. Bleach removes the color, so there’s no way to fix it.

If this is happening frequently, someone ahead of you is probably using one of these products. I would keep an old towel/T-shirt/rag handy and wipe down the counter and washing machine before doing my laundry.

I’m also careful at home when I do do a load with bleach that the next load is something that will not be harmed by bleach, just in case there is anything left in the washer.

couldn’t whitening toothpaste be the culprit?

Sunscreen also can cause stains like that.
