spread out JD a little at a time

I’m interested in ideas that would allow one to limit the amount of time one has to
spend at LS at a stretch. Is it possible to take some classes outside and carry over credit
to LS? Is it possible to break up the LS terms over a period of years ? A continuous 3 year break at LS away from work/family may not work for many professionals. Any ideas?

Part time program?

Only if you were in a dual degree program where your would be getting your JD along with another degree.

Yes, if you were to do a part-time program, you would have 4 years to complete the JD.

A number of law schools have part-time (night) law school programs for which you take four years to graduate. Some law schools will accept some other grad student courses but it is usually very limited (like no more than 6 hours) unless it is part of a combined JD/MBA or similar duel degree program. Moreover, those that will accept those minimum hours such as six mean ones taken during law school after first year and not ones you take before law school for which you get no credit. Finally, you cannot just take law school at a very leisurely pace. Once you start you must complete within six years.

The 6 yr requirement is an ABA rule. It doesn’t benefit you to do it piece by piece. Law school, especially the first years are not so much about learning the substantiative laws as much as they are about training you how to think. Its hard to do that one class at a time…
