Spring 2015 Transfer Thread

Okay, on my transfer resume do I have to put my high school GPA at the top? It was a 2.7 because my senior year II kind of forfeited my school work to my depression. Is my high school GPA really going to hurt me if my college GPA is 3.68?

@putabirdonit‌ As far as I’m concerned you don’t need to put your HS GPA anywhere… It’s of no concern to the admissions committee because all they care about is college right now.

@texasforever13‌ Ah okay. Because I was looking at the example resume and it had it at the top. Also- I don’t get why we have to type up a resume when we’ve already posted all the information on Apply Texas.

@putabirddonit Your HS transcript is not required for your application, nor are your SAT scores.

They want a detailed resume because it is more specific, more organized, and probably includes more activities than your whatever you put on your apply texas. It is easier for them to see everything all in one place, and your resume is more structured and easy to follow, i guess! If you look at the transfer resume sample, you need to provide information from the last 6 years–so include what HS you went to, but GPA is not needed.

here is resume sample: http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/docs/transfer.resume.sample.pdf</a>
here is more info about your resume: http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/transfer/admission/resume</a>
here is the checkllist verifying that your HS transcript is not necessary: http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/docs/ut.transfer.checklist.pdf</a></p>

good luck!

I only have a 3.0 GPA.
I have 52 Hours through Dual Enrollment and College.
My extra curricular activities and work experience are substantial. Student Council, varsity athletics, volunteer work, have held a steady job for years.
I went to James Madison University after graduating and stayed for a year before moving to TX for personal reasons and enrolling in the past 2 semesters at ACC.
My GPA really hurt when I was at JMU after dealing with bipolar disorder and depression. Would this be something I could clarify in one of my essays? or would highlighting these illnesses be looked at as a weakness?

My goal is to get into the College of Communications. I was planning on applying as UGS or COLA since Comm doesn’t accept Spring applicants.

I’m asking a manager at work to write me a letter of rec.

What are the odds that I could get in Spring 2015 or even Fall 2015? @DeeGeeErbear

Chance, it is highly doubtful that you get accepted with a 3.0 GPA.

@renarka @DeeGeeErbear‌ would if make sense to stay another semester at ACC or take summer courses to bring it up even though I’m very close to 60 hours? Does applying and getting rejected effect your chances when applying again?

I’m planning on applying regardless but would any of this help if anything or should I aim for TX State?

With that many hours, I’m doubtful that an extra semester at ACC even with all A’s would bring it up high enough to be competitive. I’m not trying to dissuade you from trying but just be realistic on your chances. TX state may be a better option for you if UT doesn’t work out.

Final question - Is it okay to have my current school MAIL my transcript because I don’t understand the electronic thing. Plus they’re already mailed them lol

@chance7‌ if UT doesn’t work out try texas tech university. Their deadline is in november. This is my back up plan because of my GPA being only a 3.4 and with this being the second time ive applied i’m feeling on the fence about my chances. Texas Tech’s communications program is pretty decent as well from what i hear. But don’t let anyone discourage you.

@putabirdonit‌
Yes it is okay to mail them. It just takes longer to process and show up on your mystatus page.

Syracuse University Graduate (B.S. Economics/Finance)
GPA: 3.29
Miami Dade College Graduate (A.A. Business Administration)
GPA: 3.29
Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center Graduate (A.A. Spanish)
GPA: 3.5
Applying for College of Natural Science
1st major: Computer Science, 2nd major: Mathematics
I feel confident in my essays.
3 Letter of Recommendation: Army: Peer of same rank, and Platoon Sergeant; Volunteer: Fellow Volunteer
Volunteering: USO Downtown San Antonio (350+ Hours)

Update: Attended a transfer information session in one of their San Antonio Offices and received a Financial Aid receipt notification. I know this does not confirm acceptance, but I am providing a heads up of potential interest.

As the deadline is quickly approaching, I had a question about when mystatus pages will change to say in review. Is itthe day of the deadline. Or when the committee is actually looking at my application? Whats the average time it takes to hear an admission decision back?

@violethorns17‌ when I talked to an admissions person they said mid to late November if you already have 30+ hours

@texasforever13‌, so how are we suppose to have time to do anything, such as receive info about orientation and housing? The school closes for the holidays late december. And in late november for thanksgiving. Giving only 2 to 3 weeks to prepare. That seems like a rush.

I can confirm that it will be mid to late November for your decisions. Your first semester as a transfer student will be a rush for everything.

Does the status of our application change once the deadline to turn in applications has passed?

Hi all, I’m apply as a post-bac student. Could anyone help estimating my chance?

First choice: CNS Math, Second choice: CNS CS
confident in personal statement but less so in the essay.
Strong recommendation letter from my research mentor.
Previous college:
UMN-TC, B.S. magna cum laude in Biochem &Genetics
GPA 3.74, a bit low but I finished 143 credits in 3.5 years.
Honor’s theisis, research experiences/scholarships; dean’s list; Kappa Beta Phi
Courses: calc 1&2, physics 1&2, chem&ochem 1&2, 1 grad level history of science, a lot of bio courses including 2 in grad level
some Math&CS MOOCs with certificates, 2 from UTAustin XD
volunteering: help Coursera & edx translating subtitles

I want to do quant/comp bio for PhD so prefer double-major in math and CS. Is it possible to be admitted to CNS as a math major and then add CS as a second major? Does it count as internal transfer, too, or will this be easier? If can’t do double-major, I’ll just go back to UMN (but MN’s toooooo cold…)
Thanks for help!

Okay, on My Status page it says, “Recommended: 1 thing” and then it says letters of recommendation under that. However, on the document page it says the letters were received on 9/24. It doesn’t specify if they received all of them, but my application is “complete”. Does that mean they have them all?
Haha this is what I get for using snail mail!
