Spring 2015 Transfer Thread

@DeeGeeErbear if you can read through and correct me and also answer my questions

and anyone else! it would be high appreciative.

****ALSO for the future, if you get accepted or rejected into UT please post your stats with it bcuz ppl who read these forums do not want to see “I have been accepted” and then have to scroll back through all the pages to find your stats. Make it concise for us please.

^^ oh i forgot to add that I applied for fall 2014 and got accpeted into my second choice COLA but I appealed to have my admsision transfered from fall 2014 to spring 2015 because of a personal situation. That appeal was a approved. I wrote a second appeal to have my major changed from COLA to CNS (first hoice) but that was denied. I will be writing a third appeal to try again for a major change in december before I enroll in classes for spring 2015.

The date to have your application submitted is October 1, however does anyone no when everything else is technically due? Example, the resume, recommendations and your fall grades… Is it by December or does it all come in at once?

@texasforever13 Everything has to be in by the deadline…resume, transcript, recommendations, etc. If admitted, we’re supposed to send an updated transcript as soon as the semester’s over. Just make sure your application is “Complete/On-Time” by the deadline.

@saammmaay‌ Thanks for the insight. I will be applying for a transfer in the fall and have calc 2 by then. So lets just see how well these next 2 semesters go.

I applied again this semester after applying and appealing to major in Communications last semester. I had a 3.2 gpa and 27 credits and an extra in the summer that did not get added to my transcripts. This time around I have a 3.4 gpa and all of my credits are accounted for. Is there a chance I will get in with undeclared as my major?

So does anyone know if having a UT alumn write a letter of rec for you helps your chances greatly?

Also, how do you submit letters of reccomendation on applytexas?

Im not sure about helping your chances but you submit them through the recommendation system on your MyStatus page. It gives the choice to upload them yourself or send a request to someone to write one for you.

Violet, I think a 3.4 is a coinflip decision. Really could go either way.

Does anyone know when we could expect to hear an admission decision? I have been getting alot of mixed dates.

Just submitted my application  I really hope this all works out.

@violethorns17 expect around november

The first set of acceptances for Spring 2014 were posted on MyStatus the week before Thanksgiving last year. Checking MyStatus from the time your page says “In Review” and the middle of November is a waste of time.

Having UT Alumni write letters of recommendation certainly help! 2/3 of my letters were from UT Alumni, and I got in.

Is it very unlikely for someone who was admitted into their second choice to have an appeal for their first choice approved? Of course this appeal will come with additional information that was not available when the application was first submitted. But do these appeals only get approved like once in a blue moon?

My first choice was CNS BIO and my second was COLA undeclared and I had a 3.6 gpa with only Calc 1 and Bio 1&2 as my math and science courses. I made an A in all 3 of these but I still got rejected from CNS.

My new info will include Calc 2, Chem 1, Physics 1 and hopefully my GPA will increase to a 3.796. I am planning on getting As in all 3 of those classes making my math and science course GPA a 4.0.

What are my chances at having my appeal approved for CNS bio even though im already admitted into Cola.

@DeeGeeErbear‌ I posted on an earlier forum some stats and everything, and you recommended for me to apply as a math major into CNS as I would have had a better chance. I need to get into UTA regardless because of financial issues, so would I put COLA (and what major) or UGS for my second choice? Which is easier to get into?

And to reiterate my stats, I have a 3.87 GPA with a way over 30 credits transferring and coming from a private university, and I’m taking 3 math courses (and a writing course) at the moment. What’s the likelihood that I’d get into either COLA or UGS at the very least?

Oh yea, and I probably won’t have rec letters because most of my math/science-related classes were big lectures.

Edit: Oh yea, and as for my prereq courses finished, I have credit for calc 1, 2, 3, linear algebra, two introductory sequenced CS courses, and I have ap credit for biology and physics C. I have a year of foreign language already, should have a writing course done by next semester, and am taking Discrete Math and Statistics at the moment as well. I also finished most of my GE requirements so far.

Hey guys,
So I was wondering if anybody could chance me?
I have a 3.32 GPA right now at UTSA and have 28 credit hours (without 9 AP credit hours) and hopefully my GPA after fall is a 3.55 (worst possible would probably be a 3.48)

1st choice: CNS Chemistry
2nd choice: COLA undeclared
LOR: 1 very good one from a professor I’ve known for two years now
EC: Ehh, somewhat. Most from High School though

Okay so two main Questions:
So since I do not have 30 hours of transferable coursework, will UT make my decision based on my Fall grades as well?

Do my 9 AP credit hours I’ve got here at UTSA not count towards my 28 credit hours I’ve earned through regular classes? Just curious.

Thanks everyone! I would really appreciate a reply!

:)

@kooplar246, I talked to an admissions adviser about whether or not AP credit counted towards the 30 credit hour requirement and the answer is yes! If you have claimed the credit at your university (and you MUST claim it for the credits to count), then you can go ahead and count that towards your 30 hours. Same goes with any dual credit you’ve received from high school. Also know that dual credit courses will weigh in with your GPA. Here is a phone number that you can call to speak to the admissions office; they’re pretty helpful in answering any of your questions! 512-475-7387. I do not remember their office hours exactly, but they close around 4 every day (M-F)…they’re great at picking up the phone too! So I suggest that you call them for any question you have.

@Elena94‌ Whew! That is a relief! So since I will 36 credit hours, will UT look at my Fall 2014 grades as well? Also, with my stats do you think I have a shot?

@kooplar246 If you have over 30 credit hours, they will begin looking at your application. Most people either find out in November, but I also know many people don’t find out until the week before the spring semester starts  UT recommends that you send them your transcripts at the end of the year so that they can see your current grades, but if they decide to accept you before this fall 2014 semester ends, then perhaps not!

Hmm, I think your GPA is a little low, but also CNS and COLA accept most people! It’s good that you have a Recommendation letter, but make your essays as strong as they can be. UT focuses mainly on GPA, but I think your rec letter and your essays will boost you up. Good luck!

@Kooplar246‌

I am CNS major like you and I am gonna give you my honest input here to help you out based on my experience (because I did get rejected from CNS). I am gonna answer your question first though. And the answer is if you have over 30 credit hours then UT will NOT be looking at your fall 2014 grades. If you get rejected however, you can then use your fall 2014 grades to write an appeal in December.

Now, CNS is definitely not on the same level as COLA. CNS is significantly more harder to get into than COLA. I got rejected from CNS with a 3.6 gpa, just saying. And I applied for the fall where it is supposed to be LESS competitive than applying for the spring. Spring has significantly less spots to offer for transfer students in general.

Your GPA is definitely on the low side. I’m being very honest because like I said I got rejected with a 3.6 gpa. CNS is really looking for a 3.7 and above. Now other factors do come into play like the math and science courses you have already taken. So what math and science classes have you already/currently are taking? CNS definitely looks more at your academic coursework and GPA because CNS is pretty rigorous academically and they want to make sure that they pick applicants who are the most suitable for that school.

Your second choice, however, you have a pretty good shot at if you can get your GPA to a 3.5. But go hard on your essay and resume to make it a solid acceptance. I got accepted into COLA-undeclared and was basically a shoo-in because my GPA was pretty high for COLA-undeclared and I had stellar essays and a pretty good resume.
