Anyone knows??

No, the Spring admits do not register before the current freshmen. The current freshmen will have registration appointments from about the end of the first week of November to the third week of November. Spring admits, like Fall admits, cannot register until their orientation session. The first Spring orientation is scheduled for December 6-7, 2010. The second is January 4th, 2011. [Welcome to the USC Orientation Programs Website](http://sait.usc.edu/orientation/sessions/spring.shtml)

If your student (current freshmen) hasn’t done so already, he can log into Oasis and get his registration appointment now. After logging in, choose “Permit to Register” near the bottom of the left-hand column. Then click “I agree,” and the appointment and any restrictions will display. All freshmen will have a restriction that they must meet with their advisor before being cleared to register, so be sure he has an appointment with his advisor BEFORE the scheduled registration date/time.

Thanks! I was just browsing through some courses and it seems like a few classes (Physics 162) already have numbers in them.

Are you sure you are browsing the Spring **2011 **schedule of classes? I do not see Physics 162 offered: [PHYS | USC Schedule of Classes](302 Found)

My apologies, I must be looking at the current semester…thanks!!

And one more note so it isn’t a surprise: Registration begins October 27th and the registration appointments are scheduled by number of units earned and in progress, so the seniors go first, then juniors, sophomores, and then freshmen. Students who entered with maximum AP credit (32 units) and took the full 18 units Fall semester will register before those who entered with less AP credit and/or took fewer than 18 units Fall semester.

So later this month you WILL see that students are registering in many classes before your student is able to register. But it won’t be the Spring admits - they go last.

Alamemom!

I just want to take the time to thank you! You and GeorgiaGirl are always so helpful!

Since spring admits register last, will we have trouble getting into the classes that we want? I assume that we shouldn’t since many seniors have graduated by this time and USC is a private university; however, that scenario seems likely.

10ninja!!! You are back! I have missed all of you Spring admits :)

You are very likely to be able to find 18 units of classes that you need, that move you toward your degree objectives, and that have spaces in them. USC schedules plenty, and as entering freshman you have LOTS of classes to choose from - make a long list of your GEs, lower division major requirements, and pre-reqs and you are should to be able to put together a schedule. Don’t just choose 4 classes and then have to scramble if they are full when your registration appointment comes up. Be ready to pounce!

I honestly have not heard of students who can’t get a schedules of courses they need. (pixeljig’s son had probelms getting his schedule by the first day of the semester this Fall, but by the end of the week had his classes - let us know if I am remembering that wrong, pixeljig!)

The DOWNSIDE to going last is that you will get the sections the Srs, Jrs, and sophs DON’T want: They want classes that start after 10am (after noon is even better), and that do NOT meet on Fridays. So you will get the classes you need, but they might be early in the morning (and 9am is defined as “the crack of dawn” at USC…) or on Friday.

Yup Alamemom ;)

He had registration problems, which were not anticipated (32 AP Credits) put him in the sophomore status so the system was not letting him register as a freshman first, then it snowballed into other things and by the time they figured it all out the classes were clashing so bad that he sat there with the advisor or someone for 3 hours and they eventually gave up! Told him that they will fix his schedule for him and call him, he waited 5 full days before panicking!!

Anyway, it got sorted out eventually and after a rough start (only registration wise) he is very very happy there! He has no complaints whatsoever.

I would also suggest you make a full Plan a,b,c list of GE’s and take with you. So you have options of slotting them in between your other classes. My son has 8am class, he has no problems waking up at 7am. Other days he goes to the gym.
