I’m going to be a sophomore in college this fall and my friends and I are trying to plan a spring break trip. We’re thinking about heading down to Cancun and I’ve tried researching different all-inclusive vacation packages but I’ve never planned a trip before so I’d really like some help.

Any suggestions? Sites I should check into? I really just don’t know how to start.

The fares are rapidly increasing so I really need to get on it.

Go to the Yahoo homepage. Click on Travel. Click on Vacations. Type in the dates and the destination and see what pops up. It will give you an idea of some choices and prices. Good luck.

Club Med - we are going down to Cancun this Sat. You may also want to look into Turks and Caico Club Med. Our 19 and 15 yr old daughters love going to Club Med. The 19 yr old is trying to get her friends to go next Spring break.

There are less expensive Cancun options than Club Med (especially it Med still requires an initiation fee and if guests still have to purchase bar beads for their dirnks). DR (especially Punta Cana) is very nice and closer than Cancun.

Turks/Caicos tends to be more expensive than Cancun - - though beautiful and not quite as rowdy.

We stayed at the Moon Palace in Cancun a few years ago. Nice place, all inclusive and lots of travel agents sell weeks. BUT be aware that the air fare will be very expensive.

Talk to one of the resorts directly and a couple of travel agents. Sometimes when you can guarantee a certain number of people–the # varies–you can get a better rate than you can if everyone books individually. At the very least, you should be able to negotiate a couple of 'goodies" --a free “welcome” cocktail party for your group, an extra savings on tours, etc.

Also do this with air fare. Try with the airlines directly. Try with travel agents. Ask about air + hotel packages for a group.

Stay south of Playa del Carmen . Safe. Fun. Cheap(er). My D and her “bestie” stayed at a large 3 hotel complex called Gran Principe ___ or maybe Principe Gran _, or possibly ___Gran Principe. I’d like to be more help but it appears I’m an idiot. Try traveladvisor.com and get on their forums. Everything you need to know is right there.
