@jimbob22 thank you so so so much! I was really worried and kept going through each of my credit hours and the transfer course requirement site trying to make sure my hours counted towards transfer. Whew what a relief!
@UTHopeful1986 thank you so much as well! Good luck to everyone!
Hi I am applying for McCombs, I have a 4.0 and 45 credit hours and all PreReqs done. My response still shows that I need to submit my final transcript but it says they recieved it on 5/20/16. I called admissions and they said it would take 7 days to process but that would be close to the deadline. Do we just wait and see what happens or go into their office? Good luck to all of you as well!
I also have a couple friends applying from other schools and their UT Mystatus page shows that they are under review and updated.
@HouseOfStarks I am so sorry to hear about your denial
Did you apply anywhere else?
@rpctransfer I don’t think having a 4.0 after spring grade upload makes people a shoe in… the person denied today had a 3.9 GPA. None of us know, for certain, what certain schools are truly looking for; we can only speculate and cross our fingers. UT is such a competitive school- if we do get denied, we can’t take it super hard. We just keep on trying our best and apply again next semester, if applicable. Don’t let one closed door close your whole building!
@britni12 yes I have applied to 3 other schools and have been accepted and still waiting to hear from another… all the schools are ranked higher than UT (film) but also all schools that I applied were signifcantly more expensive than UT Austin since they are private… Which is why I liked UT cause it’s was 30k cheaper than the private schools…
@HouseOfStarks Well, the brightside is you have other options!
All my bets are on UT Austin, if I don’t get in I have to go to community college for another semester, ugh
Haha… so someone asked UT admissions on twitter if demonstrated interest includes visiting the school… well DUH, they’re not going to tell you that contacting them matters, or they’d have 50,000 calls and emails a day lol
@britni12 If you are able to make a connection with someone in the department during the visit, it would matter. Some of the professors at your current school might know a person who would be willing to show their labs and other opportunities in your desired apartment. And if you can use this opportunity for networking, it will surely help you.
According to the Common Data Set, which is available on any school’s website, demonstrated interest is not considered by UT for admission. I know people who were denied after emailing admin reps, visiting the school and meeting with campus faculty. I also know people who were accepted and didn’t visit campus until after their acceptance.
@jennie11 that seems fairly anecdotal. I’m sure all of those things don’t hurt, at the very least.
What do you mean by Common Data Set?
For natural science their website specifically says they look for demonstrated interest. And I never said emailing them guarantees acceptance, that’s silly lol I just said your interest in them COULD help you a little.
Common data set is stats for the schools admissions process.
Yeah I’ve always understood this as surrounding yourself with such things that are related to your field; such as myself being a math tutor at an outreach center at the local community college where I live. I’m around math everyday, whether it’s though my own studies or my job. As a mathematics major, I’m hoping that helps my chances.
However, as stated previously, I’m sure contacting UT does not hurt your chances in any way.
Maybe expressing interest is calculated by how many time you check “mystatus”. I think everyone here would get admitted then! Pretty sure between my daughter and I we have shown extreme interest! LOL
@Clintonwk - here is a link to the 2015-2016 year. As with past- “Level of applicant’s interest” C7/ pg 7 is considered.

You can search ‘common data set’ for almost any university to review facts & figures.
I never said spamming them was helpful. All I said was taking a tour and light contact with them COULD help you, never did I say WILL help you. Demonstrated interest does include interest in the field, I was just adding to it that interest in the school itself may help.
If the amount of times you check mystatus is logged, I’m in for sure. Ha!
If doing CAP isn’t the biggest form of demonstrated interest than I don’t know what is lol ^:)^
Demonstrated interest is best shown by giving the university a large endowment. If you can’t do that, then all the phone calls and emails in the world aren’t going to help you.
Seriously, no one is adding check marks to a board tallying how much interest you’re showing by pestering admissions. If your application has already made it past admissions, then the individual departments themselves are reviewing your application at this point. Want to call up the department you’re applying for and pester them? I bet they’ll take real kindly to that. Better yet, call up William McRaven and express how interested you are. You can’t show any more interest than calling up the UT Chancellor.
At this point admissions are literally just telling you stuff to get you off their backs. That’s why their answers keep changing and none of them tell you the same thing. If they keep telling you “decisions are in 2 weeks”, then it gets people off the phone for another 2 weeks. They also said this year they’d finish earlier. They’re not.
Oh good lord. Every time I post something remotely positive, which has been verified… there are naysayers to jump right on it. Have fun with this thread, I no longer want any part of it. This thread used to be a positive and friendly space… that’s out the window.
Good luck to you all.
I never said you were attacking me, or that I was “offended”. This is what I’m talking about… everyone’s words are twisted around here. That’s why I think this thread is more trouble now than beneficial. Just an opinion. The dynamic was much different 2 months ago.
