Spring/Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

I see. good job

@mintpopsicles like a bartending or serving job.

So like Colleges at UT have their seperate admission decision office or is it like one single pool? I mean like my first choice is mccombs and second is cola so my application goes first to mccombs admissions office then if rejected they send my application to cola?

@hookemlion504 i would reccomend you get a job by your house with a franchise in austin so that you can transfer. I work at pappadeaux and i’ll be transferring to the Austin one when I get there

I’m 30 years old. Congratulations @longhornnation5

I might be the youngest transfer here… I’m 18. I was a CAP student at UTA and was 17 years old for a quite a while there (not a lot of fun being 17 in college to be honest).

I am 18 too will be 19 in 2 months

@EaglesThunder35 I think you have a good chance. I applied for Cockrell but have yet to hear back. I’ve been in review close to 10 days now. I haven’t heard of other CAP students applying to Cockrell hearing back yet.

just had a CAP friend get into moody for journalism

hello, me again! Can someone please answer some questions I have? I’ve been googling and receiving no help.

  1. I will be applying during my freshman year for my sophomore year(Fall 2017). At what time of the year should I apply? If I apply with only 15 hours then will I not get accepted until UT sees my grades for spring semester?
  2. My junior college will end around mid may next year so I am probably gonna be in the same boat as you all next year. This late in the game is it still possible to find housing on/off campus? I do not mind either.

I am the type of person who plans every detail of her life and I want my application to UT to go smoothly. I would really appreciate advice from you all and I can see you are all stressed so I wish you the best!

@cherry018 I am 18 too, I was 17 for while in college as well ahaha

@cjr123 1. Apply as soon as possible. You are correct. If you apply with only 15 hours, you will not be considered for admission until you submit your spring grades. You must have at least 30 hours of transferable coursework to be considered!
2. It’s definitely possible to find housing this late in the game, it’s just going to require lots of research.

  1. That's correct. I tried to send in my incomplete transcript (with just around 17 hours in credit) and UT told me to send my completed transcript with spring grades. The deadline for transferring is around March 1st (correct me if I am wrong). It's best to finish that up around winter break (I kind of procrastinated and didn't work on it until early February but that's no problem).
  2. It's going to be hard. Personally, if you know you are capable of getting into UT you should start looking for housing this fall (I signed my lease for my apartment during my fall semester freshman year). I signed mostly because I know I was at least guaranteed a spot in COLA since I was CAP and also because I had a fairly high GPA. It depends on you whether or not you want to take the risk.

@cjr1234

@Newsie2015 , I am a intro somm, and I cocktail bartend. So I really can’t work at a franchise. I’ll be able to find a job. I know q few chefs and bartenders out in Austin.

@Penguins786 Man it sucked like hell having my parents drive up from Houston or constantly fax me their signatures because I wasn’t old enough to sign things on my own lol. I also couldn’t really attend a lot of events and parties because I wasn’t 18+.

@mcs1996 @cherry018 thank you both!! So should I send in everything(fall transcript, letters of rec, essays) at around Christmas so that in May I will just have to send my spring transcript? Or does it not matter how early I send everything since I won’t get in or get denied until May?

I called UT Office of Admissions about 2-3 hours ago. This is how the conversation went:

UT Admissions Lady: “Hi, thanks for calling Office of Admissions. What can I do for you?”

Me: “Hey, my name is ___ and I’m transferring to UT in the engineering department. I was wondering if you could tell me whether ya’ll will release admission decisions before the deadline.”

Lady: “All UT transfer admission decisions will be released by June 15th.”

Me: “So there won’t be any decision releases after June 15th as I’ve heard on some discussion boards?”

Lady: “The decisions will be released by June 15th.”

Me: "You’re required to say that, aren’t you?

Lady: “Yep”

Me: “Ok. Now I understand. Thank you.”

Lady: “Mhmm”

Don’t expect anything before Sunday, but expect all kinds of things come Monday morning.

anyone have news of getting accepted to Mccombs?

@LostTraveler LOL at “you’re required to say that aren’t you?” :))

@cjr1234 That’s what I did! You have to have all of your materials for admission submitted by March 1. Your spring transcript is the only exception (which is needed by June 1).
