I have been following this thread for a very long time, but I finally just made an account to be a part of this thread. I applied to McCombs as a transfer from a California Community College. I had a 3.87 GPA 2 LOR with 76 Semester Credit Hours. As of yesterday I was accepted into the program and the biggest reason that I had not heard back earlier was due to the fact that I had not submitted my final transcripts. This issue prompted the director of admissions to email me reminding me to do so. Not sure if I am attending but I wish everybody that will be attending good luck

@MyLonghorn, I want to thank you advising me back on June 21 that my son didn’t get in to Cockrell because he didn’t meet the requirements (Engineering Physics I). You said “UT wont ask for his spring grades because he had more than 30 hours but he to submit his spring grades because University Physics 1 is requirement for cockrell on his own. They rejected him when he first sent it with his fall transcripts because he didn’t have Uni Physics 1 and were waiting for him to send in spring grades … so they can evaluate him with everyone that applied and was waiting to turn in spring grades.”
Although we’ll probably never be able to get UT to tell us exactly what happened, I’m pretty sure YOU WERE RIGHT! My son submitted his spring grades to ACC electronically on June 26 and appealed UT’s denial on June 29. He was admitted today, July 1, to first choice - EE!!
So, thank you!

Although we were specifically told by 2 UT advisors (once before UT transfer application submitted and once while waiting for decision in mid June) that my son did NOT have to provide his spring transcript, I think they were wrong. It might have been something else in his appeal document that persuaded them, but based on the speed of appeal decision, it’s likely it was the transcript that did it.
Bottom line - if an applicant has a pre-req course necessary for applying to a college (Engineering Physics I for Cockrell, for example), and a transcript including that course has not already been submitted to UT, go ahead and submit the transcript!

https://admissions.utexas.edu/apply/decisions
Scroll down to where it says “Appeals:
Things happen. Items get lost. Life interferes with plans. If you believe an error or mistake was made regarding your application, you may submit an appeal.” You can click on the word “appeal” and you will be directed to a page where you enter your UT EID and PW. From there you can start the appeal process. You choose from 3 or 4 reasons for appeal (can’t remember what those were) and then provide an “appeal document” (a text box is provided for this, similar to the UT application essays text box at ApplyTexas). You may also upload supporting documents. My son wrote up his appeal document in Word and attempted to paste it in, but it was too long. So he uploaded the appeal document as an attachment.

@Newsie2015 hey just noticed that you had my gpa as 3.67, it’s actually 3.76 and I had to submit my spring grades which brought it up to 3.82.

Just got back from orientation yesterday, got all the classes I wanted within the first 2 minutes. LPT write down all the unique class numbers you want and get the registration page ready to the second of your appointmented time. The classes to fill quickly, like within a matter of seconds.

@MomOf262 congrats!! maybe ill see your son around at UT, since were both ECE! best advice ill give him for the upcoming semester is that UT ECE is really hard; specially his intro classes ; well intro to EE (302) is very hard and last semester intro to programming (EE 306) was also quite hard due to the professor. I had similar stats to your son when i transferred also, so I’m were use to doing well in college. When you get to those intro EE classes he’s going to realize this in the fall; that its exponentially harder to well at UT ECE; so the just tell him to not lose hope. Believe me its very easy to lose hope when class averages for the tests are in the 40s. Some more advice would be find a group of friends to study with~ preferably those that are better at different things in EE. So that you guys can teach each other what your not understanding. Last piece of advice i would say is that Tell him to care more about what he’s studying and the material than the grade, because the people that do well in EE, sleep dream and eat EE. Just going for the A isn’t enough in ECE; you can put in 60 hours of studying but if you don’t love what your studying specially in EE, the likely hood of getting an A is not a lot. So to sum it up; Don’t lose hope if your not doing well initially, Find a group of friends that compliment each other, and last care more about what you study rather than your grade( that being said still try your hardest). Congrats again to your son!

@MyLonghorn, thank again for the great advice. Just passed it on to my son. Sounds similar to what I experienced when getting my Chem E degree back in 1984! You lent some validity to what I’ve been telling him all these years :slight_smile:
