@RocketKid3333 you should be good! i have 2 friends who got in biology this year with a 3.5!
Awesome… Thx so much!
Best,
Do you think the medical internships and medical research would help my application?
Well, I appealed the decision because someone said it may have been because of my lack of having completed a physics credit when I originally applied. I sent in my new transcripts showing that it was completed, along with calculus 2 and chem. My GPA did drop to a 3.93 this past semester but I didn’t think it would be a big deal. My appeal was denied. I’m absolutely floored over this. I see other veterans with less hours and lower GPA’s have gotten in to the same program and I’m just completely confused. I can’t imagine that a single LOR would have made a lick of difference but apparently it has for others, so maybe I shot myself in the foot by not having some work-loaded professor crank out a generic LOR in between grading papers like they do for everyone else. So let this be a lesson to anyone applying in the future; get some LOR’s!
@RocketKid3333 have you not gotten your acceptance yet?!
@CPC88 to be considered for admission to engineering you have to show completion of of Calculus II and Engineering (Calculus based) Physics I, so if you didn’t update your application showing completion of those courses you were denied categorically for not meeting the minimum requirements to apply.
I took Cal II and EP I in the spring and updated my application with my spring transcripts as soon as the semester was over. My application had pretty much been on hold till I got my spring transcripts in, but after submitting the transcripts I was accepted in about two weeks.
Admission to engineering is very competitive and there are a limited number of seats, so if your appeal was not submitted before all the seats were filled the strength of your application wouldn’t have mattered because there was simply no more room.
To anyone reading through this thread, if you are looking to apply to UT it is very important to understand the minimum requirements to apply to the specific program you want to get into. It sucks to work hard maintaining a good GPA and get denied over clerical BS.
Edit: clarification
@CPC88 Sorry the appeal was not successful. That sucks! Did your application indicate you were planning to take Engineering Physics I in the spring AND did your spring transcript indicate completion of Engineering Physics I (or was it a general physics class)? Your GPA is great, so don’t think that was an issue. You had at least 1 LOR - right? I think @finishedwaiting is right about the pre-reqs. So, assuming you completed Eng. Physics I in the spring (rather than general physics) it’s likely that by the time you submitted an appeal all the seats were filled, unfortunately. It seems some applicants (based on reading this thread) were notified that their spring transcript needed to be submitted, but I don’t think I’ve seen that anyone applying to Cockrell was notified of a missing, needed spring transcript.
@pencil787 My son is going to orientation next week and is currently watching all the AlcoholEdu and sexual assault and healthy relationship promotion required videos.
I know housing has been an issue for a lot of transfer students. A hidden gem that not a lot of students know of because it is fairly new is Belara Austin Apartments. I live here currently and love it because the security gate actually works unlike the university estates that had a lot of break ins.

Should we start a spring/summer 2017 thread?
I went to a top 20 national out-of-state college for a semester, but I took about a year off. I, then, transferred to a cc in Texas and am graduating my cc with about ~3.8-3.9 this spring. Can I still be considered as automatic admission?

Hi can anyone tell me if UT takes EC’s in to heavy consideration for transfer students? I’m going to UTSA right now but unfortunately CAP slots filled up instantly, so I’m going to have to try to transfer in on my own, I’m currently a freshman right now and I’m wondering if I should take the extra time to be in a lot of EC’s or just focus on GPA.
Focus on GPA. Check Spring/Fall 2016 stats compiled by @Newsie2015 at: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-texas-austin/1794646-spring-fall-2016-transfer-thread-p261.html
hey guys. can you guys tell me what role ECs play when applying to McCombs? I will maintain a high GPA but since i have a very long commute, I’m afraid i won’t be able to join any clubs at my uni bc all meetings are at 8pm. Also what type of ECs do they want?
Do i really need any leadership positions? I might create a club and i might be an officer for my friends club but i don’t know yet. I am willing to do anything to get into McCombs.
Chances…Please?

How cool I’m just starting at LSU as well and I’m looking to transfer to UT Austin! Any advice?
Question: Since the deadline for application to transfer starting in Fall 17 is March 1st, will they wait until they see my grades for the spring 17 semester? Or will I have to live with my GPA as of the end of this fall?
I really want to use my next spring grades so that I have one more chance to pull up the GPA. I’m looking at English major but I only have a 3.0 at Baylor after a rough 1st semester in pre-med. I can for sure get it to a 3.3 if they consider my spring grades before making a decision
Hello,
I am planning on transferring to UT Austin fall of 2017 for computer science. I will be transferring from UTD with about 48 credit hours I will have had finished 2 computer classes which are C++ 1 and 2, I will have also completed Chem 1, , calc 1, gov 1, econ 1, english 1, environmental science 1. I plan on keeping my GPA between 3.8 - 4.0, I know that its a really hard school to get into and there is a lot of competition for computer science, but if anyone has gotten accepted can you please help me with what i need to do to keep my application strong or what all you would recommend.
