Spring/Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

@jimpgz123 Unless they’ve changed the way they do things this year, then I don’t think that’s necessarily true. From looking at threads in past years, a lot of engineering applicants got their acceptance in mid April (this week)

Hi guys! I just had a quick question. I am student at the University of Washington wanting to transfer to UT austin for computer science. I currently have a 3.66 GPA, and my essays were pretty good (I think  I put a lot of effort into them). What are my chances? Are they pretty low?

@ReverseCremation I was following last thread from Fall of 2015 and most of the Engineering acceptances were in May. They did release decisions during this week for Fall 2013 and 2014. Everything is pretty random.

@nepusr I hate to say this but transfer GPA for computer science is pretty high. Essays and Resume definitely make an impact. Lets hope for the best. I also applied CS as my 2nd choice.

@“Hope N Calories” That’s what I figured  keeping my fingers crossed!

@“Hope N Calories” How are they still waiting for other’s transcripts? The last day to turn in all required documents to be considered for admission was March 7

For people who don’t have 30 credits yet, they have until May something to get their Spring grades in.

@karlmbagna Students with lesser than 30 hours can still be considered for transfer if they complete remaining hours during the spring semester.

School: Southeastern Louisiana University
Major: Computer Science & Mathematics
Hours completed: 23 (41 at the end of Spring 2016)
GPA: 4.00 (3.93 or 4.00 at the end of Spring 2016)
Transferring into: College of Natural Sciences
Extracurriculars: Part of academic societies
Volunteer work: None so far
Essays: I feel the quality of my essays were good. I wrote the required essays for admission.

I am freaking out about possibly some of my hours not being admissible. I visited campus in February and really enjoyed the surroundings and I feel I’d fit into the local community of Austin. I am going to be quite upset about not getting in. If anyone has advice on if they would move my enrollment to Spring 2017 if I fell short of the required 30 hours or what would happen.

and yeah, I got until June 1st to mail my final transcript as mentioned above. I can continue to send letters of recommendation too. Which I have three math professors from A&M that I hope helps.

hookemlion, I feel like you have a good chance in both of your majors. Since you are CNS applicant you can apply for Spring 2017 whereas Cockrell doesn’t even take applications for Spring :frowning:

@nahid123 I got my transfer audit report back in february. Got accepted 2 weeks ago.

Major: Aerospace Engineering
GPA:3.67
Hours: too many. 93.
8 year army veteran. Essays were good in my opinion, but everyone thinks their essays are good lol.

@reconn78 oh no…this was meant to go to the A&M one. Now everyone is going to think Cockrell is admitting. hahaha. If UT doesn’t take me, you’ll have a battle buddy in Dwight Look (Computer/Electrical Engineering). I got accepted back in February. 71 credits. 10+ year Navy vet(I know, I know Navy).

@Chilldude22 so you know my pain. Best of luck, hopefully we hear soon.

@“Hope N Calories” @ReverseCremation Here’s the post:
I don’t how much is true, I guess we’ll find out this weekend…Although, last year two friends of mine transferred to Cockrell and got their admissions decision on mid April…

This is from the UT Austin Reddit on what to expect for admissions decisions, for everyone who keeps asking:

"Regarding external transfers with more than 30 credit hours and the appropriate pre reqs (if required) met…

What you saw is correct, June 15th is the date they expect to have all decisions out by and they put that there as a sort of “if you haven’t heard anything, that’s about when you should call us and ask” thing.

This isn’t the date decisions are actually released. Applications for transfer students, from what I understand, are filtered by admissions for certain things like minimum qualifications then sent to the individual colleges for consideration. The college your application is sent to is contingent on your 1st and 2nd major selection (your applicant info is sent to both). The colleges themselves make decisions based on your qualifications and their available space. Spring transfer info comes out earlier than the expected dates often because there’s fewer applicants and less space. Fall applications take longer because there are more spaces to fill (graduated students left, etc) and more applicants. Some schools within UT (like Jackson I think) only take transfer applications for Fall.

Beginning in April, the colleges within UT are sent applicant info and decisions begin to roll out following April 15th ish but it’s really whenever you get it you get it. The earliest college that sends out acceptance info is COLA (College of Liberal Arts) and also Cockrell sends rejections pretty fast but no one likes to talk about that hehe So those happen about April 16 - 20th. Other schools take a looooong time to release decisions, and they roll them out within 24 hours of the individual decision being made as opposed to releasing them all on X date. The admissions office isn’t going to have an answer to “when will I hear back?” because they don’t know when each college is making the decisions until they start getting tons of calls about them. If you check college confidential for aa good 3-4 years back (y’all… look, I have a lot of free time when I can’t sleep) it’s rarely if ever before April 15th and often lasts all the way into late June.

tl;dr April 15th onwards til June. People have complained every year about the “I only get 8 weeks of notice?!” thing and… well it is what it is. If you have any other school/life deadlines to meet before mid to late June, I suggest you plan on attending to them."

@“Hope N Calories” : Can you tell me how high it is the transfer cgpa for Computer Science. I have applied for Fall 2016. I have 69 transferable credits with overall gpa 3.81. I am an international student.

how much weight do prerequisites have on decisions? ever heard of anyone getting in without meeting some prereqs??
I found out I havent met 1 course that is a prereq and I am slightly more nervous than before…

@galileo51 You’re a Mccombs applicant, right? If you’re taking your pre-req right now it’s not the end of the world. I saw someone on last year’s thread that had two courses in progress and ended up getting in to Mccombs. They won’t make a decision on you though till after your transcripts for Spring comes in. Of course, this is just my observation from prior threads. But, if you’re not taking your required course(s) at the moment, then you won’t be admitted.

what is the reason for that?? in the application process should’nt they tell me not to apply? the counselor in admissions specifically told me I can get admitted, but it will much harder for me simply because of the competition, not that there is a strict rule that says I MUST have prereqs. I was hoping someone heard of someone that got in without meeting prereqs. And not taking them when submitting the application.
