Not to sound harsh, but saying it’s not fair is silly. They very clearly have stated that decisions could be released through June. So it falls onto the applicants to decide if it’s worth the risk, as a large percentage of schools have confirmation dates before then. I fully believe that they’re being “behind” is actually an intentional process to thin out transfers. I don’t think it’s right, but I doubt it will change.

If anyone wants to forfeit their spot because of delayed decision response, I’ll GLADLY take it off your hands.

Personally I’m fine with it because they said it might be till June 15th. So it was already expected that it was gonna be a while.

@Clintonwk @kcb2004 maybe you guys are fine with not transferring this year if UT doesn’t accept you.

@optimist what?

I have no problem with it because I knew what the decision deadline was. I also applied to other schools and set the date for myself that if I didn’t hear from Austin I would go with another school. But my point is, they don’t hide this information from you. It’s not unfair at all.

In our case we have already made arrangements as if my daughter will attend another school. If she gets accepted and chooses UT we will lose about $100. Maybe you don’t want that financial risk but to us it was worth it to have a solid backup plan in place. Just an option…

@kcb2004 @optimist this was my point as well. The long wait is totally fair, and those that aren’t willing to wait this long for a decision can just give their spots to those that are. That’s what I was saying.

@Clintonwk I didn’t mean to offend you. I’m sincerely saying that may be you can take classes at your current college and apply to UT in the spring if you don’t get accepted this time around

So… let’s say students just cannot wait any longer and they decide to take another admissions offer. How does that free up the pool? How does UT Austin ‘know” that one or more dropped out of the queue? I can’t imagine that the “dropper” would be so kind to let the school know they are no longer considering admission. Given this train of thought, just because someone decided to “not wait anymore” and accept something else, it doesn’t really free up any space for others that hold out. Just a thought…. (sorry for the downer… I’m a bit tired today and not being so optimistic).

@Clintonwk These posts are silly. Of course waiting until mid June is unfair to people who need to plan housing, financial aid, classes, and such. Also, implying they should “give up their spots” is a little desperate. You should want to be admitted because you are a gem in the applicant pool, not because “Oh there were spots left over”. I just agree that the university didn’t HIDE this info, so applicants did in fact know the potential waiting time… but it’s still hugely inconvenient. UT should be facilitating a process that gets the BEST students ample opportunity to come to UT, not pander to the desperate. If a great student decides to go to LSU instead of Cockrell for no reason other than earlier decissions, that’s a loss imo.

@optimist I agree definitely. It’s not a “once in a life time opportunity” so if u don’t gain admissions, just apply again next semester.

@hookem2016 Idk how to PM you but im interested

I just have to chime in… the vibe here is quite tense. Let’s just stop. We are all anxiously awaiting and this isn’t helping. Positivity people!

@britni12 You must have a fear of conflict xD In the real, grown up world people disagree and have opposing views. I don’t think people who feel the process is unfair to good students who want to go to UT Austin (which is true) should be silenced by people desperate to get in any way they can get in. And I think if people from UTA see these comments, it’ll inspire them to change and do admissions earlier to get those QUALITY students who want to be selected on merit and get in because they deserve it… not because there’s empty space to fill.

No one is threatening to stab anyone in this thread, calm down and embrace the fact that SMART, BRIGHT students have passionate opinions and viewpoints and don’t need to “smile” all the time like one of those hyper-“positive” youtubers.

Hi,
Any international transfer applicants know if the 30 hours required for transfer had to be completed by the application deadline (March 1st) or could they be completed by May?

@MarijoseGlzz They’ll tell you in mystatus if your application is held for consideration until you have enough hours. Worse case, you can apply next semester which is what they may suggest anyways. A lot of students try and use transfer as a way to “get around” not so desirable SAT scores, so 30 hours is about when you could expect admissions IMO. It should say something like “your transcript is incomplete, please submit your transcript showing X semester coursework”.

@WannabeBanana Wow- your comment was offensive, on so many different levels. By your patronizing tone, I am assuming you think I am 20 years old; you are quite mistaken. I have lived in your referenced, “grown up” world for 12.5 years. I appreciate your assumption of my view of the world, however, again, you are quite mistaken. What I have learned, is that, yes, people have opposing views, but, never in life is negativity conducive to a productive experience. And from the assumptions I have made from this thread’s past years, this thread is supposed to be a place for us folks awaiting a response to get comfort and comradery with fellow applicants. All I was saying is, it was getting tense. Never did I comment about peoples views being wrong or right regarding the wait, so I am not sure why you went on a tangent to me about that… Also, you are blowing my comment out of proportion, with your reference, “no one is stabbing anyone here”, never did I say anything to that extreme. So, no I will not calm down. One thing I have also learned, is that “SMART” and “BRIGHT” students will use good judgement when communicating with others, while maintaining an equal level of respect, while also making to sure be understanding of another persons attempt to diffuse an escalating situation.

Also, I hope UT Admissions does read this thread, to see how applicants correspond with each other in a stressful situation.

@WannabeBanana Also, if you were passive aggressively referring to me being “desperate to get in any way I can”, I will take that as a compliment. Yes, I am desperate to get into the school with one of the best STEM programs in the country.

@britni12 No offense, the comment isn’t ENTIRELY about you. Read back two pages for context and you’ll see the context of the response more clearly because I don’t think YOU are desperate or leaping to take the spots of “anyone who doesn’t want to wait”. I did not call YOU desperate, to take someone else’s spot, I said you try very hard to “diffuse conflict” as if it’s the worst thing ever and I do think overall you need to calm down entirely.

I can’t control what you’re offended by and while I feel that’s unfortunate that you’re offended I stand by my viewpoints. Whether you feel this is a genuine “apology”, halfassed or w/e, I don’t know you and this isn’t a personal attack, so? When life gives you lemons  Go find something to smile about and chill. I am not out to get you or anyone & there’s no reason to make comments in this thread “bigger” than they are blowing stuff out of proportion.
