@Ayylmao12 haha, I just want to make sure everyone has correct info
I got accepted to UT for Psychology BS, but denied from my first choice Neuroscience in CNS. I have a 4.0, transferring from ACC. I was rejected from Neuroscience because I have not taken Calculus. Apparently that’s a big deal.
Has anyone heard back from McKetta (Chem Eng) ?
@Strelka well congrats on your second choice! I have heard that CNS is crazy strict about prereqs for transfer students. When did you receive your decision, today?
@Clintonwk Thank you! And no joke. I figured there was no harm in trying anyhow. I was too impatient to wait another semester to apply. I received my decision late Friday afternoon, and I couldn’t log into Mystatus beforehand due to an error. (Not sure if that was related to Mystatus being updated to reflect my admissions decision or not). Also, I’ve been told that June 5-8 are big decision release days. I hope you guys get to hear back sooner.
I don’t have Calulus, and I applied to CNS- Biology. Still in review… fingers crossed Bio isn’t as strict ad Neuro on Calc!!
@britni12 From the CNS transfer student section.
COMPETITIVE ADMISSION STANDARDS
Admission to the College of Natural Sciences is extremely competitive. CNS looks for applicants with standout past performance in math and science courses. A college transcript that indicates a competitive grade in Calculus and a solid foundation of first-year coursework in science is highly valued in the admissions review process.
To be most competitive, students should have:
Demonstrated interest and ability in their desired field
Strong overall grade-point average (GPA)—see our Transfer Statistics for more information
Credit for Calculus
A minimum of nine credit hours in first year math and science courses for science majors
A grade of A or B in all math and science courses
You may be rejected because you don’t have Calculus.
@utairplane28 I have read that on the UT website. I was being optimistic over here!
You never know right? haha (yes, yes, I know, my chances are slim) I did apply to COLA as my 2nd choice though, for this reason.
@britni12 do you think the odds of being accepted to COLA as a 2nd choice are good? Im in a similar situation as you and I’m worried that the chances arent good
@whlockett What are your stats specifically? All I could find was a comment you made in January saying you have a 4.0.
GPA, technical (major) courses completed (classes directly related to major) and with what grade, out of state or in state, and essay topics?
The reason I am asking those details is because they makes a big difference on whether they will consider you if you don’t have Calculus done (from my understanding, from what utairplane28 said last page). It seems as if you are a stand out applicant, yet missing Calculus (which isn’t actually a pre req, it is just recommended to be considered MOST competetive) you have a good shot still.
@britni12 Im just asking in general how often do you think people get in COLA as their 2nd choice? I know they prefer people who put it as their 1st so
@whlockett I haven’t the slightest clue how often; can’t help with that, sorry
I have never come across any stats regarding that, it is common however.
I do know that COLA does not prefer you list them 1st. There is only one program at UT Austin that REQUIRES it as a first choice, which is the Nursing program. The College of Fine Arts gives preference to students who list them as 1st choice. (Direct from UT, see link below)

@britni12 So what does that mean? will the class I dropped be calculated into my gpa?
@UTplsicri I’m not sure. Normally no, but in your original question, it seemed as if you have an extra hour with no grade as a result of too many drops…? In that instance I am not sure how UT will handle that. If I were you I would call UT, just ask them, they can for sure fill you in
Hello guys I’m sorry I’m new here could anyone tell me what does the COLA mean? Thank you all!
@Jeff787
COLA: college of liberal arts
CNS: college of natural sciences
Hi everyone, I’ve just been a little antsy about decisions coming out, so i just wanted to see if someone could chance me? I go to a UT system school. My GPA isn’t too hot, currently a 3.298, but if I get a 4.0 this semester, then it’ll go up to a 3.43. My GPA was no bueno last year (im currently a sophomore) bc of mental health issues but since then I’ve improved, getting a 4.0 last semester and hopefully this one too. I mentioned all this in one of the three essays i submitted. I applied to COLA, the Global Studies major, i don’t know much about the gpa necessary to get into this specific major, maybe someone knows? Not too many extracurriculars in college but a ton in high school, a little volunteering, no letters of rec either
but i think my essays were good, idk im just extremely worried bc of my GPA. Thanks for any help and sorry for the long post
Anyone heard from McCombs?
How do you know if you have the 30hrs or not? Did ut tell you spefically they require a copy of your final transcript? Since this is my second transfer, I don’t really know how many hours ut accepted.
@Kimkimyoung If this is your second transfer attempt then I assume you’re at least a sophomore by now. If so, then I’m pretty sure you already have the 30 hours requirement. If you didn’t, on the my status page it would say that they need your spring grades in order to make a decision.
