Spring/Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

@ashwitch what kind of statistics? no one has claimed acceptance or denial on this thread.

I’d just like to know, so I can start packing for College Station or stay in Austin. My 60 day notice to move out of my apartment is due soon…

@ ashwitch I applied to Moody and have not heard anything yet…

In my opinion, many of you guys will hear back this week or next week at latest.
Besides, if yall are put into the same applicant pool as the freshman, that just gives yall a chance to shine.
I really think a school such as the University of Texas appreciates individuality much more than a school like Texas A&M. Thats what I interpreted “holistic review” to mean, an emphasis on individuality and personal innovation rather than a systematic standard or formula.

@kkyaya @mintpopsicles Statistics as in average gpa, # lor, community service

I want to do the RTF program… how much experience do transfers usually have?

@ashwitch so I’m applying for Moody as well, here’s what some of the info i’ve received from various resources:

UT Admissions:

  • Average GPA: 3.68
  • 45% acceptance rate FOR 2 YEAR COLLEGES around the country (i wanna say it was 1200 out of every 2500 applicants? maybe a lot less)
  • Strong essays

ACC Advisor:

  • LOR’s are optional, did not focus on them very much
  • Internships are a STRONG recommendation
  • Under 40 hours is ideal

I tried to mold my stats around this advice.

@mintpopsicles What did you write the essays about? Were they very personal? I am becoming so insecure. I participated on shortfilms back in Colombia, and have done a lot of acting on tv and editing on my own before.

asyrtyasfgbd6ysd

I’m anxious.

@ashwitch Yes, mine were exceptionally personal. I wrote Essay A about a traumatic experience that happened to me a few years back, and how the recovery from that experience made me a strong, hardworking person. I also mentioned my parent’s alcoholism and weak presence in my life.

Essay E was originally about my struggle with depression and suicide, but it was similar to essay A and my advisor suggested another topic. I picked mental health stigma within the US and how to rid ourselves of it. I worked for quite literally WEEKS on these two essays to make sure they were perfect, taking them to multiple people for grammatical and structural review.

Do you have internships at all? Don’t be insecure, I’m sure your application is great.

Good, I took mine to the writing center center plenty of times, and a lot of people read them as well.

@mintpopsicles No internships. I mentioned the different shortfilms I did back at home in the resume. I also participated in a contest for a one minute film, all in one shot.

Did you mention why you chose the RTF program in your essays at al?

@ashwitch I applied for the PR program. My final paragraph in Essay A was about why I wanted to go into PR, what career I wanted to pursue, and why I would be good for UT.

My advisor suggested the more personal the essays are, the better.

It should help as long as you have some form of experience. It is a competitive program, however, so there’s no way to know for sure what your chances will be. But I think you will be fine.

Yep I am an RTF hopeful as well, finished finals at least and I’m getting my associates which is awesome.

@ashwitch my first essay I mentioned why I chose RTF and was very personal about a year I took off to travel and my time in the military. My second essay was also personal and about my family and some experiences I had while growing up. I do have experience already in the field as I did freelance video work and did it for the Navy for a little while.

I think it helps you a ton that you have experience in filmmaking and that you even entered a contest. I think you’ll get accepted and if I do as well we should all try to go to the same orientation if possible

@BladesofGlory Congratulations on your Associates Degree!

@mintpopsicles Re: the stats… look on the previous page (113 for me). britni12 summarized the stats shared so far. Nothing for Moody has been shared yet.

For the people who apply computer science engineering undergraduate, check your first choice major and second choice major. See are they still there. My first major is CS but I checked today and it jumped to ME for both first and second choice. I called the the CS department and and general admission they said it’s because the seats are fulfilled and if I didn’t get denied at this point means just the seats are full.

@Jeff787 so does it mean both majors are full or that you’re only being considered for ME at this point?

mine is still CS, so you probably just got denied from CS and now you’re in the running for ME.

@Jeff787 Are you mixing up A&M’s admission with UT’s? This happens with A&M’s AIS system plus Computer Science is in the school of engineering at A&M not at UT.

@SystemAddict I’m talkin about tamu

@Penguins786 should I get a letter about I got denied? I mean so quiet just switched…

@Jeff787 Oh i thought you were talking about UT, never mind
