Spring Schedule

I know I have to take these remaining I-Core pre-reqs:

What class should I take in addition? I could take E202, or a gen ed. I think I'm going to take my second A&H over the summer, so I need to either take my second N&M, or a 300 level S&H psych class (doing a psych minor).

And what professors should I try to get?

You might consider taking E202 this spring or summer if you are doing any overseas study or overseas internship through Kelley after taking Icore, since both Icore and E202 are required to do those things.

A lot of the psychology courses are N&M; would one of those qualify for your second N&M class?

AST-A 100 The Solar System is an N&M that is very easy through Ivy Tech Bloomington online (A100 The Solar System), with no lectures.

I want to do the Sydney internship this summer, but obviously I won't have Icore done. I don't think I'd want to do it the following summer as I would try to get an internship with a big company here. I was going to see if I could go around IU and apply directly to the program (through Arcadia University) and then have those credits transfer back to IU and count as my international dimension requirement. What are the chances that would work?

And I would take a psych N&M, but I have 3 S&H classes already so that's going to be my concentration, so I need 2 300+ level classes for that and for the psych minor.

I don't think many people have tried that. But who knows. Seems like it would be tough if you need any help from Kelley, for instance, if you need from Kelley a letter of recommendation and an adviser's form, like they want for the Sydney summer internship per Arcadia's website.

I can understand why you want to do an internship each summer. Are you an accounting major? Seems tough for accounting majors to get decent overseas internships or overseas study that will help them much, although I know of a girl who did the Sydney summer and got a great job in corporate accounting in Chicago with just that internship after junior year. Also, my son's friend paid for a really bad London internship as an accounting major after junior year, but still got some second round interviews for Chicago firms and Crowe Horwath Chicago. If you are looking to work in Chicago, where there are usually lots of jobs for accounting majors, just having the Sydney after junior year might not be so bad. But I definitely see why you want to do two summer internships.

Arcadia University - Australia Sydney Summer Internship

I have a letter of recommendation from my internship this summer at Merrill Lynch, and I think my advisor would do the form for me, although I'm not meeting with my normal advisor next week when I go.

I am a finance major. I have recently considered doing accounting instead/in addition, as I do actually kind of like the accounting classes, I just don't know that I'd actually like doing accounting as a career. I know a lot of people do that double major, how many extra credits does doubling make it? I know a lot of the classes do overlap.

I am from the north side of Chicago, and do like the idea of working there, but am also very open to going elsewhere.

All accounting majors have to take these classes.

A311 Intermediate I
A312 Intermediate II
A325 Cost Accounting
A327 Tax
A337 Accounting Information systems
A424 Audit
X301 Communication for Accountants (1 credit)
A422 Advanced Financial or A437 Advanced Managerial

Accounting major also requires nine credits of upper-level classes from one non-accounting concentration. A lot of accounting majors do three finance classes, then just take two more finance classes to complete the accounting/finance double major.

I enrolled in the 4 remaining prereqs, but I don't know what to do about my last class. There are some spots open for psych classes but they are all reserved for majors, and beyond that there are 50+ people on the waitlists for all the classes I want to take. Additionally, the only E202 sections open are 8am (which I know I wouldn't go to as much as I try, and wouldn't do well) and the other is taught by Self, which from what I've heard sounds really bad (Is it?)

What else could I take? The Kelley Study Abroad office said I could do Sydney around the school and it would transfer fine. In the event I do it (I have to apply and get accepted, and my parents have to OK it), it gives me a 300+ level S&H, meaning my second N&M would be a 300 level psych class to complete the minor in addition to a 300 S&H psych. If I don't do it, I'll probably take an A&H and possibly E202 this summer (unless I have an internship, which seems unlikely right now). So I can't really know which category gen-ed to take until I know about Syndey. I guess I could take an A&H and just take Econ if I don't do it.

Any other ideas? Thanks

Edit: I just looked at your post about the new Kelley bulletin and gen eds. I can't get it to load so I can't look at it. Can I choose to go by the new requirements?

You might try loading the new bulletin pdf file through this link. Page 13 says you can choose the new or old Kelley degree.

Most Kelley upper-levels you can't take till after Icore, but A311 Intermediate Accounting I and other accounting upper-levels are exceptions. If you have finished A202, you could take A311. Would definitely give you a jump on getting an accounting internship or a finance internship. Would make your semester a lot harder, too, though.
