Sam Springsteen, son of Bruce & Patti was sworn in as a Jersey City firefighter this week after graduating the fire academy. Jersey City FD is the 2nd largest department in New Jersey and he’ll be sure to get his share of work.
It’s refreshing to see a young kid follow his dreams in a rewarding career helping others in a densely populated, mostly below poverty level city. Be Safe Sam
I loved seeing all the photos, but wondered how Sam felt in terms of the special treatment his parents got and whether his fellow new firefighters were resentful. Front row seats, lots of media coverage. Of course if I were Mayor Fulop I would certainly want Bruce and Patty in the front row. They both looked so happy, proud and supportive of Sam. Good luck to him.
Sam was the highest scoring non-veteran in this class. He’s already finished the academy and he seems to fit in like any other probie. I’m sure he’ll get his full share of ball breaking, if not more. He’ll be scrubbing toilets, cleaning dishes and polishing brass like every other probie before him
The parents are multi millionaire mega stars. They could have called on favors to get this kid a career pretty much anywhere. The fact that he followed his heart to a blue collar career speaks volumes about him. He’ll have a great career, earning everything thru hard work.
Sure, there’s significant poverty in Jersey City, but they don’t call it the Gold Coast of New Jersey for nothing. And there are fires in the $$ high rises on occasion, as well as in the new town houses with Manhattan views.
Not sure what this means. Fires are dangerous no matter the wealth, or lack of it, of the inhabitants. Jersey City is more poverty than Gold Coast. It had a major shooting incident a month ago. It is not a cushy, safe job.
Wonderful photos and the family looks like a typical family very proud of their son and brother. All the best to Sam . He has seemed to be committed to doing this work for a few years. It is difficult, hard work, with many safety concerns. He certainly could have chosen many easier paths in life.
