AHHHHHHHH! I was just reading back over my “Why SPS?” essay and realized that I said I would ‘contribute to the swim team’ but I just found out they don’t have one. SPS is my first choice, so now I’m nervous they’re going to think that I won’t go there because they don’t have swimming or that I didn’t do my research. I don’t know how I missed this, and honestly I don’t care that much about swimming but I’ve done it for a while. I just assumed they had a team because everywhere else I’m applying does. (Ugh even the underfunded schools where I’m from have them). They also have a pool, which is kind of misleading. Also, I got a special interest rec from my swim coach. How bad is this? I’m kind of freaking out. It was just one line in my essay, and I think my interview went extremely well. Will I be rejected because of this?
You could always email the AO and ask about starting a swim team and mention that you would love to start that program. Since they already have a pool, you assumed they had a team, however because they do not it is something you would love to bring to SPS! Even if they tell you starting a team is not an option at least you will look motivated and ready to contribute to the school community!
Also I wanted to add I think your special interest rec from your swim coach is probably okay because they also know you as a person and how you preform under pressure.
A bit off the topic, but related to SPS. It seems that SPS admissions are not willing to reply emails. I emailed them three times, and got one AUTO reply only. I know the AOs from ALL schools are much busy at this moment, and some may reply in 3-5 days, which is fine to me. But no reply from SPS for either asking for checklist or emailling addtional documents. I am not sure this was only for me or others experienced this too. Btw, they don’t have an admission portal for checklist. Is this correct?
Didn’t your interviewer show you their website’s exclusive online chat mode? You could always send a quick text to any one of the AO’s, and even reach out to one of the students at SPS.
Totally off-topic. That’s called hijacking and violates Terms of Service as well as being considered rude to the OP. It’s better to start a new thread instead.
You’re not hijacking anything lol, and I don’t think you’re being rude. I believe you can contact SPS teachers and students through the link I pasted below. Actually, your post reminded me that this is an option, so thanks. And thank you @jpmorganchase21 for bringing it up as well.
@jpmorganchase21 @reknihtrevo Thank you both for pointing out such an option of contacting school. Didn’t know it. I will definitely give a try there.
Glad that everyone sees replies in a positive way. Just a casual reply. Good luck to you!
Hopefully SPS has an intramural swim team.
During an interview a few years ago an applicant expressed interest in joining the swim team at a New York boarding school only to be told that the school did not even have a swimming pool. At least SPS has a swimming pool.
