<p>What is there to spy on? If we wanted to send an agent over there, there’s nothing they can do about because they wouldn’t know unless our agent make a move. China should know this.</p>
<p>A few possible motives (all innocent):</p>
<ol>
<li><p>Obtain information on an individual that could be useful in the future</p></li>
<li><p>Ensure that there is no “improper” exchange of information between
foreigners and Chinese citizens.</p></li>
<li><p>Ensure that no conduits are being established for the import/export of
goods/information/etc.</p></li>
</ol>
<p>You get the idea. Remember, this isn’t Kansas. The spying story doesn’t surprise me. If I were traveling in that country, I would assume I was being monitered at some level.</p>
