So my school uses a weighted GPA scale… for regular classes, it’s the normal A-F grading scale, but for honors classes it is H-F, an H being over a 97%. But when I filled out my SRAR I input my grades based on the A-F scale, and if I got an H in a class I would put an A+. I know it’s not like I inflated my grades or anything, but would this be problematic? I’ve already been accepted. Should I contact admissions?

lirpaux,
That looks to me like it could be grade inflation. UIUC wants you to report the grades as they are reported on your report card. (An A is an A, not an A+ for receiving honors). UIUC will figure out that you received honors when they see the official transcript. IB and AP classes are no different–these are all “honors” classes. There are many IB schools that report only an unweighted GPA, too. When schools do not use a weighted GPA, grades (and class rank) are not fully represented by gradepoint, but, again, UIUC understands and takes that into account. The self reporting system in not perfect, but the Universities know how to interpret the info if it is submitted properly. It could be a problem if you changed an A to an A+ for multiple classes. It is possible that UIUC is familiar with your school’s grading and might think that you indeed received many A+ grades because that is what you submitted. I think you should contact UIUC just to be on the safe side.(Also, by using the weighted GPA, the school has already factored in that you have taken honors classes.) Ask the guidance counselor at your school if an H is equal to an A+. This info is part of the paperwork that high schools send to universities along with the transcript to explain their grading system. If your school considers an H to be an A+, then it will be explained on this official grading report, and then there is no problem…but if they consider it an A with “honors” recognition, then there is a problem. Good luck.

Oh okay, thanks! On the SRAR it said an A+ was equal to a 97% so I thought it would be okay if I just used it for my Hs… My school doesn’t actually use A+, so if I get a 97% in a regular class, it only shows up as an A on my transcript, so I just input those as As. Is the use of H’s uncommon in schools? I’ll definitely send an e-mail and let them know though.
