SS importnace?

I know everyone says getting rejected for the summer seminar will not stop someone from getting an appointment, but will getting an acceptance guarantee him or her an appointment. thanks

Acceptance will not guarantee an appointment.

Acceptance to SLS means that a candidate appears to have the qualities that USMA is looking for from the preliminary application, but it is not a guarantee of an appointment. Candidates still need to go through the competitive application process. There are no Whole Candidate Score points awarded for attending, so SLS attendees do not have any advantage there. The advantage is that USMA can evaluate a candidate (squad leaders will interview SLS participants), and the candidate can experience and evaluate USMA and get some of their questions answered by cadets or faculty. In addition candidates have the opportunity to take the CFA during SLS. There is an advantage to getting it done early, but be warned, the conditions are not always optimal. (My son took it after lunch on an afternoon when the temperature was around 100 degrees and the humidity was rediculously high.)
