Hi, my DD has a substantial financial aid package. She is 18 and will file her first 1040EZ. The $5,000 in untaxed SSCI dependent benefits will be listed on her 1040EZ if she files. This is the first year she will file and her dependent benefits received prior did not have to be reported anywhere. If she files she will get $100 back from her summer job taxes.

The SSDI Dependent Benefits will not impact the FAFSA, but I’m wondering: Will the SSDI Dependent benefits impact her fianacial aid package? We have to also file the CSS profile and IDOC. Last year we didn’t have to report it as she didn’t have to file. Should we not file a 1040EZ? It is not required, but even $100 is helpful.

If you are familiar with SSDI Dependent benefits, you’ll understand when I mention that that $5,000 only included 2 payments made after she turned 18 and was still in high school. As in years past, we used the money to support her as it is based on my Social Security disability.

Thanks! I can’t seem to find any discussion about this. I wouldn’t want to jeopardize the size of her financial aid package just to get her back her $100.
