SSA recommendation question

My son has to complete the SSA by December 1st, and he can’t have his recommenders notified until after he’s done his research thing, which may be pretty late in the game.
My question is, other than instructions on the recommendation tab, which say 1 should be academic and one should be leadership/community service/personal accomplishment, and that they Ned to address what capacity they know him in, how well, and how long they’ve known him, is there anything else we need to tell the recommenders so they can upload their recommendation as soon as he’s ready?
Thanks in advance

1214mom,

I believe that the LOR need to be submitted by 12/15 for last year. Therefore, your son should prepare a resume and give it to his teachers next Monday for the teachers to write their LOR in the next two weeks.

The date is definitely 12/1 for best scholarship consideration. He has the resume, but he cant assign the recommenders until he completes his research essay. I just wondered if there were any other instructions he should give to the recommenders to write their recommendation since once he finishes his essays they won’t have much time.

We are in the same boat 1214 …we have this whole week off, dd just found out
she was accepted last Friday, SSA due Dec. 1 for priority consideration.
not cool IU

Sorry ldavis - it’s not IU’s fault. IU’s admission application was available in August, and takes probably less than an hour to complete. Turn around for acceptance is less than one month. All deadlines are clearly posted on the website. I had a procrastinating daughter last year who missed the 12/1 deadline and got $0 honors money and only a token direct admit scholarship and national merit $ to go with her automatic scholarship and it was 100% her fault for procrastinating. I have my third daughter in the process this year and she got her SSA done and to her recommenders three weeks ago. Lo and behold, as of yesterday, they still had not submitted her recs yet, so we are down to the wire again. At least this year, I can’t blame my child!

Her app was in well before Nov. 1 deadline… they had an error in their system with her HS Transcript… Parchment they call it. WE got it corrected, that held up her acceptance, she just now got the prompts for the SSA. And requests for Teachers etc. cant go out until her esaays are complete - its all online. Their fault.

I dug out DS3’s SSA application which included the following notes:

Are you sure that the LORs have to be submitted by 12/1 now? If not, your students still have time.

What’s well before 11/1?? August? September?

My D got an e-mail today that her letters of rec. were received, her SSA is complete, and it is now available for the selection committee to review. So look for that e-mail from IU.

Just got everything in tonight. Keeping our fingers crossed,
