ssat help

Hi I am applying to Thacher for next year and I have to take the SSAT. Do you have any tips on scoring higher on the SSAT. Also how high of a score do you need to get into Thacher?

For those of you who go there, what is the best part?

IMO, once you’re over 85% or so they stop worrying if you can do the work and focus on the match: what you can do for the community and what the community can do for you. I think their website does a good job of highlighting the special characteristics of the school that should align well with your interests and personality. Pay attention to these factors.

One thing that I found out when doing my SSAT practise test is that the maths questions are very similar to the competition maths questions that I've done before. I recommend, if you struggle in the maths section, for you to try some AMC8, UKMT JMC or UKMT IMC questions. You can find about fifty pass papers online, and some have explanations for the answers too!

Personally, I found the maths section the easiest, I didn’t really need any studying or anything, it was just verbal and reading that was difficult. Try use quizlet, it really helps

The SSAT is only a small part of your application, so don’t fret too much over it. By all means, if you feel the need to study, do so, but don’t spend all of your time on it. Focus on finding your passions, dedicate yourself to them, and highlight that in your application essays and bio. Thacher looks for people who are motivated, who are willing to take risks, who will persevere when they fail, and who have a passion for giving back to the people and community around them. If you look through old threads there is a ton of resources for SSAT studying that you can find as well.

My favorite part is probably how everyone is inclusive of each other and super friendly all the time. Plus, the small size makes the community super tight knit. And, of course, the horses.
