where can i get a sample SSAT exam?

need an idea of what exam taken was like to help our preparation

Most major bookstore chains and Amazon carry SSAT prep books. Kaplan, Princeton Review, Peterson’s all sell books with sample SSAT/ISEE tests. The SSAT also sells a book with sample tests, but it’s more expensive than the others. The non-SSAT test prep books also offer tips and strategies for taking the tests.

The ISEE is the test most used for day school admissions, and, as such, also has tests geared toward students in younger grades. Are you looking at boarding schools for the next year or so? I don’t know what tests the junior boarding schools prefer. But as a 5th grader, even if your child skips a grade, s/he still has a few years to get the math skills – particularly the algebra and geometry – that are measured in the SSAT.
