SSAT scores for ISL schools?

From experience … what level of SSAT scores are schools in the ISL looking for? What numbers get rejected? Everyone says that they don’t put too much emphasis on SSAT scores and that sports, ec’s are equally as important, but they have to draw the line somewhere or use these numbers to evaluate/compare similar students.

Obviously the top-tier schools like Phillips will be looking for scores in the 90’s, but what about the next tier of schools? 90’s 80’s, 70’s, 60’s ???

Can anyone share their scores and acceptance/rejection information. TU!

This information is a few years old but the data has probably not changed much. The first number is the SSAT score, the second number is the
acceptance rate.

Here are rankings for the greater Boston area. You will notice some of the ISL schools on this list.

If you go to www.boardingschoolreview.com, you will find average SSAT scores for most schools and acceptance rates for all. A few schools on your list are day schools, so they would not be on this boarding school website. The information may not be the most recent for some schools. The other source for acceptance rates is www.petersons.com . This would include all independent schools.

Latest data from BSR:
first SSAT score, second acceptance rate

Groton School n/a;24
Lawrence Academy 53;56
St. George’s School 85;32
St. Paul’s School 88; 19

As I recall, Buckingham Browne and Nichols average SSAT is about 85-88%
and acceptance rate is 19%

Applied to 4 of the ISL schools and Andover
Grades B+ average in public school (mostly honors classes)
SSAT 90th centile
2 sport athlete-league all star
Accepted to all 4 ISLs and Andover

My S is applying as a freshman(no repeat), independent school now, all A’s w/ 1 B+, 2 sport athlete, testing suggests 80th percentile when he takes the SSAT. Thoghts on acceptance to ISL’s, Deerfield? Thanks.

What sports does he play? ISL schools tend to push hard for hockey players and lacrosse players in my experience.

I assume he is boarding, since you are also considering Deerfield, so that takes Rivers, BB&N, Thayer, Nobles, Belmont Hill, Roxbury Latin, St Seb’s .

off your list as they are primarily day schools. Nobles and Belmont Hill have very limited boarding options.

I would think he would be in at Lawrence Academy and have a good shot at
Governor’s Academy, Brooks, St Mark’s, St George’s

Milton, St Paul’s, Middlesex, Groton are worth a try but more of a reach

Just my 2 cents–Good luck

I agree w/Momofaknight.

He’d probably get in at Lawrence and Governor’s, (by the way, two of the ten oldest prep schools in America.)
Brooks, St. George’s, St. Mark’s are within reach too.

That updated Lawrence SSAT number looks suspiciously low… Have they dramatically increased the size of the school or something? Mid-60s seems about right… I know that it just received an anonymous $10 mill. donation for a new theatre…
