SSP vs HOSA Internationals

First time posting on CC! I am a sophomore that miraculously got accepted into SSP for the genomics program. The dates overlap with HOSA internationals (SSP being June 16-July 24 and HOSA being June 26-30), and SSP specifically states there are very few exceptions to attending the program for the full time. I am in a partner event for HOSA, so my partner would not be able to compete if I drop HOSA. We won first place in a state where first place typically places top three at internationals. I have emailed SSP requesting to only miss the day I would be testing at HOSA, but if they don’t allow an absence, what would be the better option? I am planning on doing pre-med with a biology or bioinformatics major and hoping to get into a good BS/MD program. I really don’t want to make the wrong choice, please help!

Hey! I also recently made SSP and also made HOSA internationals this year, so I am in the same situation as you! However, since you are a sophomore, it is a tougher decision for you, as I made HOSA internationals last year, but am committing to SSP this year. What I would do, is to do HOSA and then try your best in it so you can be more competitive for other programs in your junior year. My one concern is that SSP might be hesitant if you apply again next year. But yeah, it is a really tough decision. Congrats on both achievements, though!
