Yesterday, I received a letter from the selective service stating that I’m not registered. I forgot to do this as soon I turned 18. I registered through online. I was wondering if this affects the financial aid I will get for spring term. I’m a first year SJSU students and will be back to school on the 26th.
It might. What type of financial aid are you getting for the spring term? By law, those who are required to register for SS and have not are not supposed to get federal financial aid. If part or all of your spring term financial aid package is federal aid, there may be an issue, depending on how quickly and easily the SS registration system interfaces with the federal student aid system. However, if there is a problem, I would think that it would be pretty easy to resolve it, given that you have now in fact registered. It may be a bit of a hassle and your aid may be delayed a bit, but in the end you should get what you are entitled to. Or, if everything works quickly and the way it is supposed to, there may be no issue at all.
I’m getting EOP grant, Pell grant 1, Cal grant B, State University Grant
The school will request proof that you registered. You should be able to pull up your registration on the SSS website soon after you register. Print the page & email/send it to the school’s financial aid office.
Huh, I thought I was already registered when I first filled out the fafsa at age 17 then turned 18(Last June). It’s interesting because I got my financial aid disbursement during fall semester. I already contacted my school’s financial aid office and I’m waiting for a response
