St. Louis Life- Smoking and Drinking?

So my AP Stat teacher just came back from St. Louis. He went to Illinois so he went to watch the Final Four. I asked him about the city and he said everyone walked around in drunken stupor, like openly drinking in the city was quite common, and that everyone smoked. Anyone got anything to say about this?

The key there being Final Four weekend. Lots of celebration going on in the city, therefore lots of public drunkenness. Otherwise it’s not that different from any other city except for on Mardi Gras (StL is home to the second largest Mardi Gras celebration) and St. Patty’s. I’m from the DC area where smoking is almost never allowed in restaurants so I hate that people can smoke in most restaurants here in StL. But you get past it. As for weed, it’s no different than any other city, probably less prevalent b/c it’s not as quality here. Anyway, this shouldn’t factor into your decision, the city is as much a part or as little a part of your life as you want it to be. I recommend the latter as you get into your junior and senior years and the former for freshman year.

That is a complete lie. I live in St. Louis, and the people here are not all winos or druggies. In certain parts of St. Louis, such as North St. Louis and the outskirts of downtown, you will find a lot of crazy drug-addicted, drunk people. However, people like these do not represent the whole city. Most people in St. Louis are clean.

How can anyone make a college decision based on partying during the final 4 in St. Louis. Most of the people attending (familes & students) were from the University of Illinois and University of North Carolina…

Aww come on dudes, take it easy, lol. He has a right to question his teacher’s observations…hey, I would too! Sure it was during the final four, but it never hurts to get some opinions of those who know best.

I visited, stayed in St. Louis for 2 days, and thought it was very clean, a very nice college town. Of course, I didn’t visit the whole city, only those areas fairly close to Wash U’s campus. Didn’t see any public drunkenness or an excessive amount of smoking…and I’m pretty sensitive to smokers, don’t approve at all, lol.
