According to the news article:

On-duty police officer was at his house, which is outside of the patrol area that he was supposed to be patrolling. Off-duty police officer visits the house. They start playing a roulette type of game with a revolver with one bullet in it. Off-duty police officer gets shot and dies. On-duty police officer charged with involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action.

I sort of agree with Sybylla. Why was the on-duty officer at his house when he was supposed to be working? How did he shoot her if they were playing Russian roulette? I thought that that game involved putting the gun to your own head, though I admit my knowledge is based on watching “The Deer Hunter” decades ago. Why was the off duty cop at his house when he was supposed to be working? Did he have a spouse or significant other?

The female officer was 24, had been on the police force for two years and prior to that had been in the military for six. Do the math. Maybe she should have stayed in school a little longer?

Either that, or something else much worse. But no wonder people don’t want to call the police, if this is who is going to show up.

The Circuit Attorney and the Police Department have been battling for some time. It’s hard to tell who is more right or wrong about which issues. It’s probably healthy to get some issues out in the open.

St. Louis Metro Police has some major issues for sure. Fortunately my WashU kid has enough street smarts to avoid unusual situations.

And the last couple of years have not been good for the St. Louis Metro PD. Stockley verdict riots when an undercover police officer was beaten by fellow officers. A bar fight between off-duty police officers and a bar patron resulted in a shooting.

There are more police officers who take their oath responsibly than the bad ones. Unfortunately the bad ones end up in the news more often than not. We don’t talk about the rookie LEO in Davis who was pretty much executed by an idiot…
