DS chose a job in St. Louis and will be moving there late June. Any suggestions on neighborhoods or even specific apartment buildings/complexes? He will be working near the airport and would like to keep the commute to a reasonable time. Open to any suggestions.
Also, anyone looking for a roommate? He can afford to live nicely by himself, but would prefer sharing a place for companionship, meeting people, etc.
D lived there to go to grad school at Wash U in Demun area near Kaldies coffee shop was nice. Have no idea where the airport is. Price of apartments is very reasonable.
My daughter lived in the Central West End while attending grad school at Wash U. Great area with fun shops and restaurants, lots of young people, but can be pricey. Not sure about the commute, though.
Would second the recommendations above. University City, Clayton, Brentwood, Richmond Heights are all centrally located, with an easy commute to the airport. St. Louis City neighborhoods such as CWE, The Hill, Dogtown could be good options. Maybe look at the WashU thread for roommates?? Hope your son enjoys St. Louis!
There is an apartment complex for UMSL students and young professionals very close to the airport (8 min drive) that might be worth checking out. They may do roommate matching.

^ I think he’ll pass on that complex. Right on the border of Ferguson. He can afford nicer places on his engineer salary.
That’s a good point. Ferguson is probably best avoided.
The young professionals I meet around St. Louis almost all live in the Central West End, in St. Louis City. That also follows the advice my dad gave me years ago, to live east of where I work so the sun is behind me on the commute.
Maplewood, Clayton, Richmond Heights, University City are also possibilities. He can move out to West County when he decides he wants a house and a dog.
I concur with MomofJandL. The Central West End seems to be the liveliest spot for young professionals. The Hill is great, but is populated with tons of undergrads which may (or may not) be something that he’s looking for. My son (also a new engineering grad) just went through this in a different city and chose to pay a bit more, but to live downtown where the young people tend to congegrate. Time will tell…
